Last Call for Festival Faculty Proposals Due August 1!

Mark your calendars now for the Alabama Dance Festival on January 9-18! Alabama Dance Festival Faculty Proposals must be received by August 1. Financial Need and Ambassador Applications are due on October 1. Performance applications for the New Works Concert and Festival Showcases are due on November 1. Join the Alabama Dance Council before September 1 and and you will save $10 on your Festival registration! Gift cards will be emailed to all ADC members who join or renew their membership between now and September 1.

July 31: Ebony Arrington Dance and Performance and SISTA, Inc. presents an Advanced Master Class with Keith Cross, often referred to as the Ballet Dancer’s Master Jazz Teacher. Mr. Cross is Founder of Tendu Inc., Artistic Director of Texas Dance Theatre (1990-1998), and Master Teacher for Cross Jazz Tours, Owner of American Jazz Dance Convention. The Advanced Class for ages 16 - up is July 31, 6:00-7:30pm. Adults, teachers, pre-professional & professionals welcome! The class is at Children's Dance Foundation, 1715 27th Court South, Homewood, AL 35209. The class fee is $35.

Aug 2: Registration for the 2014-2015 school year - Grebel Center for Dance, 102 Commerce Parkway, Pelham, AL 35124. There will be an Open House on Saturday, August 2, 10am-2pm, as well as auditions for the Alabama Youth Ballet 11am-12:30pm. Audition fee is $20. You may register online or by calling (205) 987-7234. Classes begin August 18 for the school year. Summer classes will continue through August 8. As a service to other artists, we also offer free classes and free studio space to professionals during off-season times. Class is M-F 10:00-11:30am with Stevan Grebel. Please call or come by to arrange private studio time.

Aug 2: There will be a master class for intermediate dancers ages 12 and up on Saturday, August 2, 2:00pm at the Carver Theatre in Birmingham. Dancer Katherine Files will teach choreography inspired from her four years of training with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, where she is a senior in the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University BFA Program in Dance. Katherine is also a graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts.

August 3-4: The Alabama Dance Theatre concludes the Summer Dance Seminar with two free performances of “Stars on the Riverfront” that will feature a unique array of classical and contemporary works. Admission is free. Performances are Sunday, August 3rd and Monday, August 4th at 7:30 p.m. at the Riverwalk Amphitheater. For more information call 334-241-2590 or visit www.alabamadancetheatre.com.

Aug 4-8: Come experience the exciting adventures of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince with The Alabama Youth Ballet Company this summer! In this one to two week workshop, children will experiment with movement, music, storytelling and costuming as they relate to ballet. Older students will learn about the audition process, stage direction and more, in a professional atmosphere. This workshop is open to all children and students ages 4 and up are invited to attend this one-of-a-kind workshop in our area. Come and learn these dances before the audition season begins. Experience on pointe is required for variations and the pas de deux.

Aug 5-7: Huntsville Ballet is holding Jr. Company and Company Auditions for Levels 4x, 5, 5x and Level 6 students on August 5th, 6th, and 7th from 4:30-6:00pm. If you are interested in Auditioning, you must attend TWO of the classes listed above. Huntsville Ballet Company and School has a position open for a male dancer for 2014/2015 season. For more info contact Artistic Director Phillip Otto, phil@huntsvilleballet.org. Also offering full Scholarships and housing stipend for male dance students 15-18 who want hands-on coaching and training.

Aug 8: Sanspointe Dance Company will host the final summer choreographic salon in the theater at the Community Arts Space (Children’s Dance Foundation) in Homewood, AL on Friday, August 8 at 6:00pm. Choreographers and audiences will have a meeting of the minds through the performance event followed by an intellectually guided discussion forum. We look forward to seeing your there!

If you are a Leader in ANY capacity, you are more than welcome to attend this event. Leadership principles are the same, no matter your area of ministry.
