Festival Applications Due October 1 for Registration Discounts!

Apply for a half or full registration scholarship by submitting a Financial Need Application and/or submit an Ambassador Application for a 30% registration discount. Parents who are available to work as full-time volunteers on January 16-18 may apply for Chief Ambassador. If selected, you will receive a free registration for yourself and one dancer. Both applications are due on October 1 and recipients will be notified by October 15. Performance applications for the New Works Concert and Festival Showcases are due on November 1.

For Immediate Release: The Montgomery Ballet is pleased to announce Foye DuBose in the position of Artistic Director. Mr. DuBose brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this 56 year old institution. He began his dance career at Carver Creative and Performing Arts Center and Alabama Dance Theatre and continued his training as a Ford Foundation scholarship at Pacific Northwest Ballet School. Mr. DuBose has appeared professionally with Dayton Ballet, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Ohio Ballet, Southern Danceworks, and Alabama Ballet. As a choreographer, Foye has created works for Alabama Ballet, Southern Danceworks, Georgia Youth Ballet, Birmingham-Southern College, and most recently Alabama Dance Theatre where he served as Ballet Master for ten years.

Sept 19: The Performing Arts Exchange, or PAE, is an annual performing arts booking, showcasing and professional development conference, managed by South Arts and hosted by a different eastern city each year. PAE is the primary marketplace and forum for performing arts presenting and touring – artists and work, ideas, learning and information – in the eastern US. Our purpose is to connect artists with audiences by fostering excellence in all aspects of presenting and touring the performing arts. This year's conference is Sept 29-Oct 2 in Atlanta. Online registration continues until Sept 19.

Sept 20 & 27: Nathifa Dance Company & Outreach, Inc. announces an Open House for the DANCE AFRICA BIRMINGHAM Fall Project 2014 on September 20th & 27th. Classes will start in October and run through December on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Classes will consist of African dance, drums and fabric design. Participants and members from NDC will present their work during two Kwanzaa celebrations. A limited number of scholarships will be offered. Sept 21: Alabama Dance Theatre will host an open audition for children, men, and boys to be a part of the upcoming performances of “Dracula” and “Mistletoe.” Children’s auditions for “Dracula” and “Mistletoe” will be held on Sunday, September 21st at 5:30 p.m. Parts are available for children in second grade to age 12. Boys and Men are needed for “Dracula.” Auditions for Men and Teen boys will be held at 6:30 p.m. Men and boys will be judged on acting. Wear comfortable clothing and come blood thirsty. The auditions will be held at the Armory Learning Arts Center, located at 1018 Madison Avenue, Montgomery. More info: call 334-241-2590.

Sept 24: Children ages 8-16 are invited to audition for the opportunity to perform with Alabama's premiere professional ballet company in the magical George Balanchine's The Nutcracker™! Children auditioning should wear leotards, tights and ballet slippers. Male dancers may wear shorts, a close fitting white t-shirt and white socks. The audition fee is $20 per child. Audition schedule: Ages 8-12: Registration at 4:00pm; Audition at 4:30pm. Ages 13-16: Registration at 6:00pm; Audition at 6:30pm. Sept 26-28, Oct 3-5: Alabama Ballet at Home features selected repertory, including an encore of Agnes DeMille’s Rodeo, all performed in the Ballet’s home studio. With complimentary drinks and a more personal atmosphere, Alabama Ballet at Home is a great way to introduce friends and family to the excitement of live performance. October 4-25: Professional Modern/Contemporary Dance Movement Workshop Series taught by Sanspointe Dance Company members. $18 drop-in or $15 if registering for all four classes in the series. Special discounted Trip the Light concert ticket ($15 value) available if purchasing the entire workshop series. Classes meet from 10am-Noon every Saturday in October at Children's Dance Foundation. Wednesdays & Sundays: Join us at Grebel Center for Dance for this class geared for the athlete in everyone! This class, based in ballet, will develop agility, flexibility, timing, strength and power. This class was designed and developed by Stevan Grebel to facilitate athletes in any program. Give us a try and see how it helps! (No tutus required). Classes are offered on Wednesdays at 6:15-7:15pm, Sundays at 2:00-3:00, and by appointment.

Tuesdays: Children's Dance Foundation announces a new level for Adult Contemporary Dance classes. This beginner-level class, taught by Sara Turney, will focus on developing muscular coordination, core strength, and the basic technical elements of dance while exploring contemporary createive movement. The intermediate/advanced class is taught by CDF Artistic Director Heidi Stoeckley. The classes are on Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30, beginning September 2 – December 20 on a drop-in basis at $10 per class or $142 for the semester.
