Alabama Dance Festival Faculty Proposals Due on August 1!

Mark your calendars now for the Alabama Dance Festival on January 8-18! Alabama Dance Festival Faculty Proposals must be received by August 1. Financial Need and Ambassador Applications are due on October 1. Performance applications for the New Works Concert and Festival Showcases are due on November 1. Join the Alabama Dance Council before September 1 and save $10 on your Festival registration! Gift cards will be emailed to all ADC members who join or renew their membership between now and September 1.

July 11-Aug 8: Sanspointe Dance Company will host a summer choreographic salon series in the theater at the Community Arts Space (Children’s Dance Foundation) in Homewood, AL on the 2nd Friday of June, July, & August at 6:00pm. Choreographers and audiences will have a meeting of the minds through the performance event followed by an intellectually guided discussion forum.

Dances are limited to a 10 minute maximum duration and must be movement-based. Each screening of work will be limited to 6 choreographers.

July 14-July 28: Back by popular demand is Children’s Dance Foundation's summer contemporary dance series taught by CDF and guest teaching artists. Advanced level ages 15 and up. Click here to Pre-register and Pay: $75 (a $21 savings!) / Drop in basis: $12 per class ($10 for Alabama Dance Council Members).

July 13: Les Twins, Beyonce's featured, male, French dancers will be in Birmingham to conduct workshops for kids and adults on Sunday July 13, 2014. Check out the video of the twins with Sarah Van Patten and Dores Andre of the San Francisco Ballet. Click the link below for more information and to register online for the workshop.

July 19: Level E Productions is seeking background actors for a video shoot titled "OBJECTIVE." Characters & ages include: Age 16 & up: college students, coffee shop customers; Age 21 & up: doctor or nurse, creatives, business woman, businessmen, joggers/runners, baristas (coffee shop worker); Ages 1-4: small children & parent(s) (parent must accompany children & participate in shoot). The shoot is on Saturday, July 19. No compensation, but loads of fun! To apply, email your name, age, best phone number. Also include a photo of yourself dressed in character applying for (non-professional photos are accepted). Email to: OBJEXTRAS@GMAIL.COM with the subject as the character you're applying for (ex: Runner).

July 21-Aug 1: Session I: July 21-25. Session II: July 28-Aug 1. Does your little one dance around the house pretending to be Cinderella or the Sugarplum Fairy? Is "Barbie Swan Lake" in heavy rotation on your DVD player? Then Tutus & Tiaras is for you! For one week, four hours a day, children ages 4- 7 will take age appropriate ballet and tap classes, create ballet-oriented crafts and learn how ballet dancers tell stories with pantomime. During these four hours, the children will also have a story time where they can learn the story of ballets such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, The Sleeping Beauty and other classical ballets. They will need to bring a sack lunch. At the end of the week, parents are invited to observe as the children put on a performance.

July 21-Aug 4: The Alabama Dance Theatre will host its annual Summer Dance Seminar July 21st-August 4th. Intermediate and Advanced dancers are eligible for this two week intensive seminar which features classical ballet, modern, and jazz classes taught by a nationally recognized guest faculty. The Summer Dance Seminar culminates with two free performances of “Stars on the Riverfront” that will feature a unique array of classical and contemporary works. Admission is free. Performances are Sunday, August 3rd and Monday, August 4th at 7:30 p.m. at the Riverwalk Amphitheater. For more information call 334-241-2590 or visit www.alabamadancetheatre.com.

Aug 2: There will be a master class for intermediate dancers ages 12 and up on Saturday, August 2, 2:00pm at the Carver Theatre in Birmingham. Dancer Katherine Files will teach choreography inspired from her four years of training with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, where she is a senior in the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University BFA Program in Dance. Katherine is also a graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts.

Aug 4-8: Come experience the exciting adventures of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince with The Alabama Youth Ballet Company this summer! In this one to two week workshop, children will experiment with movement, music, storytelling and costuming as they relate to ballet. Older students will learn about the audition process, stage direction and more, in a professional atmosphere. This workshop is open to all children and students ages 4 and up are invited to attend this one-of-a-kind workshop in our area. Children will choreograph some of their own segments during the week to relate the story through their own feeling of dance. Come and learn these dances before the audition season begins. Experience on pointe is required for variations and the pas de deux.
