From the House Studio

With the new four legged addition to the family in full swing, (Gracie Lou Freebush- "Gracie, but we love Sandra Bullock so when we get a bit upset with her puppy-ness we call her that.) We are making adjustment as needed and learning fast. Hank our big guy is a good elder figure for her. And Sophie our Kitty is doing what kitties do best....causing fun trouble with her.

I've been pulling out a few demo's that were unfinished.   I have to say it's a bit difficult in some aspects to go back into a collage piece.  As I'm not in the thought process as I was when I started them.
Though as I tell my students you have to looking into the piece and see what's there and it's like playing detective with your art. Observing how to use the elements in an interesting way.  Yes this is the most frustration time of creating but also the most exciting time.  I call it the love / hate in the process.

Steams of Confession lg 2
Streams of Confession, 8 x 8 wood panel
Started in Dillman's with a small book page from a religious book on how to confession in Spanish shared by one of my students. Loving the carpet tacks, chess piece with the red ribbons and turquoises beads.

Last bit of Awesome News to share....I've recently been accepted to train for Golden's artist educator program, heading to New Orleans in October, 2017

  Tack Down Tuesday

#061217-A, "Now and Then" 8 x 8 piece of collage art on watercolor paper with 2” white mat on all sides ready for a frame.

Materials Used: 140lb. Watercolor paper, polymer medium, acrylics, painted Kraft paper, painted and printed deli sheets, tree image transfer, sanded/stenciled magazine paper, painted drawing paper, graphite pencil, wax crayons and acrylics glazing, sealed with a layer of UV satin varnished.

Meaning behind the art: This piece got its start in a demo at Dillman’s Creative Art Foundation, time ran out and I didn’t have time to finish its.  The tree image is a transfer and I was thinking about the big oaks that I saw up there and how beautiful they were.  Then alongside of them are the poplar trees that look like someone broke them off half way. I asked about them and they get some kind of disease that doesn’t let them grow and then rot out at the top.   It’s sad but it has me thinking about how many other trees are dying out too and the disease they are getting.  My maples had the black tar spot last year and I didn’t mulch that in like I do normally. I picked up the leaves but this year there seems to be some kind of other fungus or something grown on them they look like their burnt.  We need the trees for good air quality….might be harming them?

Is a gathering of artists, who share their creative life, spirituality and books.

"Art is a portal. Through it we can explore these mysterious depths, see the beauty of our world more clearly, understand ourselves and other more deeply, and realize the gift of our individuality. Like walks along the river, making art is a journey of illumination and possibility, pregnant with potential for ourselves, those we touch, and ultimately, beyond."
