The National Association for Minority Engineering Program Administrators (NAMEPA) and the Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) announce their continued partnership by hosting the fourth joint conference.  We invite you to join us at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor Hotel in Baltimore, MD from April 12-14, 2010.

The purpose of the conference is to share and investigate ideas that diversify the field of engineering through increasing the participation of women and minorities.  The conference organizers are calling for abstracts of best practices in programs and research that support the increased participation of women and minorities in engineering that have a focus on one of the following themes:

Port 1: Diversity

Port 2: Policy

Port 3: How to get Funding

Port 4: Cultivating Tomorrow's Talent

Port 5: Effective Messaging

Within the themes, we will be accepting a variety of formats for sharing the information.  These include:

Paper Sessions Each paper presentation will be 10 minutes in length with three-four papers per session, grouped by themes.  Each session will include 10-15 minutes for questions and answers. Papers will be divided into two types of sessions, reflective of the variety of participants and academic endeavors in WEPAN/NAMEPA conferences. These are:

Panel and Speaker Presentation sessions will be one hour long and should address one of the five themes of this years' joint conference. The abstracts should include an objective for the session (e.g. To explore the impact of mentoring programs on retention, etc.), a list of proposed panel participant/speaker names, titles and relevant qualifications, and descriptions of content of the session and how the session will be structured (e.g. interactive, question-based, a series of short presentations, Q&A, etc.)

Workshops can be either one or two hours in length (indicate the desired amount of time needed for your workshop) and should address one of the five themes of this years' joint conference. If you require more time (e.g., you would like to propose a full-day workshop) provide adequate justification for the time allocation.  Workshops must provide hands-on activities for participants. Abstracts must include presenter name(s), title(s) and relevant qualification(s); objectives for the session (e.g. Workshop participants will be able to design an effective camp experience, etc.); and descriptions of workshop content and how the workshop will be structured.

Showcase is an open forum set up to run for two-three hours and provides an opportunity for one on one interaction with conference participants.  Materials for the showcase can be posters, hands-on experiences, or any other information about your topic. The showcase session provides you with an opportunity to describe programmatic initiatives in more detail, distribute materials, demonstrate videos, and exchange ideas with other conference participants.

Abstracts are required for all of the four different formats and must:

Note: It is expected that at least one author from each accepted abstract will pre-register for and attend the conference.
