RVR on the National Stage

In this issue:

  • Report from the US Rowing Convention: Program Director Karla Landis represents RVR in Tempe, AZ.
  • News from the Coach's Launch:  Athletes training hard for Ergomania!
  •  You're Invited: Our second annual Benefit Breakfast is less than 8 weeks away!

Report from the US Rowing Convention

RVR Program Director Karla Landis flew to Tempe, Arizona in December to participate in a Diversity Task Force panel discussion entitled "Our Children, Our Challenges, and Our Future". She joined representatives from like-minded programs across the country to share strategies and successes for access-based programming.

Karla on the experience: "The US Rowing Convention provided yet another opportunity for Rainier Valley Rowing's mission to be shared with national rowing community. Richard Butler, US Rowing Inclusion Officer, feels RVR is a program that should be replicated nationwide which is a huge compliment to all the volunteer hours, donors, and supporters who have helped shape this program along the way."

In addition to her leadership with RVR and here in the Northwest, Karla is a member of US Rowing's Diversity and Inclusion Community Outreach Committee.

Winter training is in full swing at Mt Baker. All the novices are working hard on the ergs in spite of the gray weather and dark evenings, and spirits are high. Some athletes are looking forward to ERGOMANIA as a culminating winter event, and everyone is excited to hit the water at the end of this month!

Come cheer on the athletes, check out RVR's table, and maybe even race yourself at the Northwest's premiere indoor rowing competition on Saturday, January 30, 2010! Learn more at the Northwest Ergomania Website.

Get Involved with the RVR Benefit Breakfast!

If you haven't already marked it on your calendar, make sure you plan on attending the RVR Benefit Breakfast on February 26! You can learn more and buy tickets at our website.

We're still looking for table captains - invite a group of your friends to join you for breakfast and celebrate the success of the program!

If that's not the role for you, how about working as a day-of event volunteer? There are spots for registration, greeting guests, set-up, and more.

We need your help to make this event - and RVR - possible! E-mail Development Coordinator Carla Bezold at carla@rainiervalleyrowing.org to take advantage of one of these opportunities.
