Second Annual Benefit Breakfast - Good Times For All!

RVR hosted our Second Annual Benefit Breakfast on February 26, 2010. With broad community support, the event brought in nearly $50,000 for future RVR programming - Way to go, team!

A huge round of thanks to the RVR Development Committee led by Event Chair Val Voss, our 25 Table Captains, 13 different rowing programs, 8 RVR rowers and families, 8 Olympians, and more than 250 supporters who made RVR's fundraiser a smashing success!

Special recognition goes to speakers Marcie Sillman, Dr. Jim Antony, Dr. Jabali Stewart, RVR athletes Khrishar and Mar'Quel, and Anna Cummins. All the speeches were great and reflected a common theme - love of rowing and the power of sport to change lives for the better.

Khrishar summed up the experiences of many in the room when he said: " What I have learned from rowing is first and foremost; rowing is not as easy as it looks! But all those long erging, ab crunching, energy taking practices paid off because I am stronger and am continuing to get stronger...

I also learned that practice makes perfect, its ok to make mistakes and last, I can’t stress this enough, not everything is as easy as it looks!"

Rower or not, the satisfaction of learning something challenging resonated with everyone!

A highlight of the program came when RVR Committee Chair Penny Lewis presented the first RVR Synergy Award to the members of Conibear Rowing Club. Conibear representatives Becky Brown (President) and Sara Lopez (coach) were recognized for their support of RVR from the beginning - everything from driving the van to raising money to lending their equipment, time, and expertise to the project. Thanks Conibear!

 News from the Coach's Launch...

The warm and clear days this month have made for a great start to spring! One of the highlights for everyone was a visit from Anna Cummins, US Olympic Gold Medalist and RVR supporter. Anna shared her rowing experiences with the athletes and taught them some exercises to help keep them healthy throughout their rowing careers - exercises they have incorporated into their daily routine at the boathouse.

Thanks Anna!
