Houston Durga Bari Society (HDBS) has an immediate opening for a Priest to serve at its spacious temple.
Spread over 6.2 acres of land amidst serene ambience with large waterfront, HDBS complex houses a temple, priest quarter, auditorium, kala bhavan, kitchen and playgrounds. The temple represents a perfect synthesis of Hindu beliefs where devotees attend regular puja of the main deities of Ma Durga and Her associates, along with Radha-Krishna, Ma Kali, and Shiva. The annual Durga Puja attracts over 3000 devotees from greater Houston area and other parts of the country. HDBS also provides a platform for cultural, educational, athletics, and youth programs.
The position of the Priest requires a deep knowledge and experience in performing Hindu religious services and ceremonies in accordance with scriptures and Bengali tradition. The duties include performing daily pujas, special pujas during weekends and major festivals, Hindu samskaar karma (annapraashan, upanayan, vivaha, antyeshti, etc.), and other services at HDBS complex and outside as approved by the HDBS administration. The requirements of a preferred candidate includes but not limited to the following:
A minimum of five years of relevant experience as a full-time Priest
Preferred educational qualifications - Bachelor’s degree with courses in Sanskrit
Fluency in Bengali with working proficiency in Hindi; basic communication level in English is desirable
Good interpersonal skills.
Salary and Benefits
The remuneration package will include accommodation, utilities and health insurance allowance. The take home pay-package will be comparable to those offered by other Hindu temples in the Houston area.
The position could be on permanent or on a contract basis. Initial employment agreement will be for two years with a probationary period of six months. The contract can be renewed annually based on performance.
Candidate must be willing and able to relocate to Houston within a month after signing the employment contract.
