I am very pumped and excited about April’s Quantum Popcorn movie “Man on Wire” for which I will again be the host. “Man on Wire” is what one critic said, “the most inspiring heist movie in modern history.” This full feature documentary won many awards, including:
The tough-as-nails film review website Rotten Tomatoes reports that 100% of the 142 reviews have been positive. That makes “Man on Wire” the second highest rated movie on this website (second only the “Toy Story 2”). Impressive. “Not only a fun heist movie but also a moving tale of spiritual uplift and beauty.” Rotten Tomatoes “Man on Wire is absolutely breathtaking, a documentary as life-affirming as it is artistically intoxicating.” Rotten Tomatoes
So what is this movie all about? Read on... ![]()
Quantum Popcorn Show April 30th In August 1974, a young Frenchman named Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between New York's twin towers, then the world’s tallest buildings. After nearly an hour of strolling and dancing on the wire, he was arrested, taken for psychological evaluation, brought to jail and before he was released, Petit was sentenced to performing a free tight wire dance in Central Park. Many years earlier, when Petit saw a picture in a magazine of the World Trade Center being built in New York City, he found his mission. As a trained high wire walker, Philippe made it his goal to set up a wire between the two towers and to give the world a show it did not expect and would never see again. As is often the case with these endeavours, the actual high-wire walking was the easiest part of the plan. For nearly seven years, Petit worked on the project, recruiting accomplices who supported him every step of the way. Petit then spent another eight months in New York City planning the execution of the coup. Aided by his team of friends, Petit was faced with numerous extraordinary challenges:
This was all done by night in complete secrecy. At 7:15 am, Philippe took his first step on the high wire, 1,350 feet above the sidewalks of Manhattan…
James Marsh’s documentary brings Petit’s extraordinary adventure to life through the testimony of Philippe himself, and some of the co-conspirators who helped him create the unique and magnificent spectacle that became known as “the artistic crime of the century.” “Man on Wire” is crafted like a heist film, presenting rare and fascinating footage of the actual event alongside flawless re-enactments and modern-day interviews with the participants. The result is an immersive, emotionally gratifying motion picture, made all the more stimulating by an electrifying score. Come out to UNBC on April 30th to experience this movie with us, a movie the critics described as enthralling, invigorating, transfixing, palm-moistening and definitely entertaining. To help us ground this experience, I am putting together a group of fearless panellists from the fields of business, health, journalism and leadership who will share their thoughts on how we all can show up more fearlessly in our lives. Stay tuned.

Calming My Dog's Fears of the Storm “Last night I had an opportunity to tap with my little dog who is very scared during thunder storms. I held her and I tapped. She responded very quickly and after a few minutes, she lifted her head out from under the covers. Simply amazing! The rest of the storm did not cause her to tremble but she did stay close. If it had not been in the middle of the night, I would have kept tapping but I think I will save that for another storm during the day : ).”
