If you're a member of a church and are looking for a unique and fun ministry opportunity, consider being a Habitat Faith Liaison!  Volunteer to work with the faith relations department to recruit volunteers for building projects and organize fundraisers within your faith-based group or organization and build partnerships between your group and Habitat for Humanity.  For more information, visit the Faith Partnership section of our website and then contact Meredith Montgomery at mmontgomery@habitatmobile.org or call 251-476-7171.

Construction Leadership Conference Comes to Mobile

Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County played host to the Construction Leadership Build during February 9-13. This Build was a wonderful opportunity for construction leaders from other Habitat affiliates from across the country to come and learn about leadership on Habitat worksites, and especially about working and building with volunteers. There were about 40 participants, including the construction staff here at HFHMC. Here are some photos of the week, to show what a great time everyone had and how much work was done!

Second Saturday Singles Build

Our first Singles Build event was unfortunately rained out, but the second is scheduled for Saturday, March 14.  Sign up today by going to our Singles Build MySpace page. Join other socially-conscious singles in Mobile for a day of fellowship and philanthropy!  Meet new friends and help build a house.  For more information, contact Meredith Montgomery at mmontgomery@habitatmobile.org or call 251-476-7171.  Singles Build is held on the second Saturday of every month.

Senior Women Build House Dedicated

It was an incredible day for us - the day we dedicated our Senior Women Build house.  The first Senior Women Build project was a huge success and included more than 100 women (most of whom were over the age of 50) building a house from the slab up in less than 100 days.  Some of our volunteers were on hand to help celebrate the dedication, and even took part in it!  The Davies family moved into their home the week before the dedication, offering us a rare opportunity to see a furnished Habitat home!  Check out the photos here and video here.

Building All Over The County

Our volunteers started two houses in Cedar Point in February.  These houses are currently in the finishing stages, which means we can use volunteers who are willing to install floors and do interior painting.  We started a house in Midtown last week and it is being dried in as you read this email.  This week, we started homes in Hillsdale, so they are in the framing stage and we will be framing houses in Irvington and Fairview near the end of the month.  If you would like to help out on any of these homes, call Jennifer Tidwell at 476-7171 or email jtidwell@habitatmobile.org

Family Partners Needed

We are trying to reach even more families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing to see if they qualify for our program.  If you know of someone who may benefit from our program, please let them know about our orientation sessions coming up in March and April.  Attendance at an orientation is manditory, so the sooner prospective homeowners attend, the sooner they can get the application process going.  More information on the orientation process can be found here.

What Is The ReStore?

The Habitat ReStore Home Improvement Center sells donated, used, and recycled building materials.  Volunteers are needed for sales, merchandise display, donation pickup, and other tasks.  You cna also contribute by donating any items you may have and do not need anymore such as appliances, furniture, excess flooring, paint, wallpaper, or fixtures from a recent remodeling project, and much more.  You can also benefit from the ReStore by shopping there first for all your home improvement needs.  Call Lois at 251-476-1121 for more information, or click here for a detailed wish list of items needed.  You can find the ReStore at 4128 Government Blvd in Mobile.  Come out and see what everyone is talking about!

HBA Expo

Special thanks to the Mobile Homebuilder's Association for giving us a free booth at the Gulf Coast Home Expo this year!  This event will be held on March 28 and 29, stay tuned for more information!
