Planned Giving - A Way to Leave a Legacy
Did you know it's easy to leave a legacy of hope, helping families in need? A bequest is a gift through a Will, made after your death from the property you own. Everyone should have a Will. Without one, your estate is at risk of being distributed according to state laws, with no consideration to your personal interests or the needs of those you love. A Will is the most fundamental aprt of an estate plan. It can easily be modified, without havign to rewrite it, through a document called a codicil. In a Will, you can name an executor, designate guardians for minor children, describe your assets, and specify how and to whom you want to direct them after your lifetime.
Through your Will, you can help ensure the future of our work by naming Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County the beneficiary of a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your residual estate, or a contingent beneficiary. Any gift by bequest to Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County will reduce your estate taxes and help ensure the construction of homes to uplift the lives of families in need for generations to come.

Habitat and St. Paul's Partnership
As part of a unique partnership between Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County and St. Paul's Episcopal School, and thanks to a grant from State Farm, we began our first Service Learning Project in August. This project consists of classroom lectures, discussions, and real worksite experience. Students in the service classes have already learned all about poverty, substandard housing, and the Habitat for Humanity homeownership program. Through classroom activities, students have been able to follow a hypothetical family through the process of orientation, application, and acceptance. On October 8, students will begin the sweat equity part of the program. The house will be built entirely by St. Paul's students, parents, and faculty. Hundreds of students will participate in this build, led by Leslie Learner and her service classes. The service classes will also be planning a very special dedication of this house. This project is an exciting opportunity for Habitat to help educate the next generation of volunteers and donors, which will ensure our ability to continue our mission for many years to come.
UMS Service Day
And speaking of young people giving time to help people in need, UMS Wright will be spending their annual Service Day with us as well! This project is also on October 8, and will consist of 100 UMS students prebuilding walls and painting siding at our construction warehouse to help get ready for upcoming builds! UMS has a tradition of helping Habitat on their service days, and we are grateful for their volunteerism and commitment to community.

Volunteer Update
The volunteer turnout on the weekends has been tremendous! Even the rain couldn't stop you! Thank you so much for your continued support of our mission here in Mobile County. We finished up several of the houses on the build schedule and had a wonderful turnout for the Interfaith Build in Hillsdale.
Work will continue on the house in Grand Bay, siding and interior finishing. We will be recruiting 25-35 volunteers each weekday for a build in Theodore beginning on October 29. There will be a very strong need for workers that Thursday and Friday, and for the following two weeks. Dedications for several houses will be coming up soon, so stay tuned for the date announcements on those. They will include the Brannon house in Fairview, the Durden house in Grand Bay and the Fleming house in Cedar Point.
