Choice & Commitment Awards Celebrates KIPP LA Achievements
|
|
|
"We are number one, KIPP is number one!" shouted 20 enthusiastic KIPP LA Prep cheerleaders, extending a warm welcome to guests at the third annual Choice and Commitment Awards.
That was just the beginning of a packed evening for the nearly 150 friends of KIPP LA who filled the Ahmanson Ballroom at the Skirball Cultural Center on a balmy evening in October.
Guests came to celebrate KIPP LA's accomplishments over the past year, honor three individuals and organizations who have gone above and beyond in supporting KIPP LA's students and schools, bid on fabulous auction items, and enjoy a delicious meal.

KIPP LA Prep cheerleaders pump up the crowd.

Despite stiff competition, it was KIPP LA's students who were the stars of the evening:
KIPP Academy of Opportunity's drum line, KIPP LA Prep's cheerleaders,
and KIPP Raíces Academy's Achievers captivated the audience with their
energetic performances. During the cocktail hour, singers and dancers from our middle schools
showcased their talents and math abilities in performances of popular
songs and "The Place Value Rap".
The evening closed with awards presentations to Revolution Foods, the Joseph Drown Foundation, and Los Angeles Unified School Board President Monica Garcia.
KIPP LA's school leaders and executive director expressed their
gratitude to our distinguished honorees, while students presented
honorees with their awards for "High Expectations", "Focus on Results",
and "Power to Lead", respectively.
Thank
you to everyone who supported and attended the 2009 Choice &
Commitment Awards. Thanks to your commitment to our students, we raised
over $130,000 to help fund the excellent education they deserve.

Carl E. Wynn Foundation Awards Grant to KIPP LA |
|
|
In November, longtime KIPP LA supporter the Carl E. Wynn Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to KIPP LA Prep, KIPP LA's middle school in Boyle Heights, to support its academics and operations.
On behalf of the KIPP LA "team and family", we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Carl E. Wynn Foundation for their untiring dedication to our students as they "climb the mountain" to and through college.
