Dear Friend,
It's been another busy couple months at KIPP LA: KIPP LA Prep received an EPIC Silver-Gain Award, while KIPP Academy of Opportunity and KIPP Raíces Academy welcomed community members at Open Houses. Even with spring break coming, there's no rest for our Team & Family: the fourth annual Museum of KIPP Art (MOKA) is fast approaching. Read on for all details.

KIPP LA Prep Earns EPIC Silver-Gain Award
In March, the Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC) recognized KIPP LA Prep for the significant gains its students made last year, awarding the school a 2010 Silver-Gain Award.
EPIC, a New Leaders for New Schools program, identifies high-performing schools and supports their teachers and leaders as they share the best practices that contribute to their students' academic gains.
As a Silver-Gain School, KIPP LA Prep is one of the 22 highest ranked charter schools in the EPIC National Charter School Consortium.
"It is such an honor to be recognized by EPIC," said KIPP LA Prep's School Leader Angella Martinez. "This award is a testament to the hard work and commitment displayed by our teachers, day in and day out."
Marcia Aaron, KIPP LA's executive director, echoed Ms.
Martinez sentiments, adding that Ms. Martinez played a critical role
too. "I'm constantly inspired by the quality of her leadership and her
unyielding dedication to our KIPPsters."

School Open Houses Strengthen Community Ties |
Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina addresses guests at KIPP Raíces
Academy's Community Open House.
Community members who attended KIPP Academy of Opportunity's Open House last week may have thought their days of filling out school worksheets were over.
But when School Director Ian Guidera assigned attendees a worksheet and group project, they revisited their school days, diligently put their heads together, and answered the required questions about how to better our community through service.
Keeping with the service theme, students later discussed community service opportunities, and special guest Blair Taylor, president of the LA Urban League, spoke
passionately about the importance of service, for the well-being of
ourselves and our communities.
KIPP Raíces Academy's Open House got started with rousing chants from the KIPP Raíces Achievers who shared their school values and the years they will graduate college (2025 for first graders, 2026 for kindergarteners). Featured speaker County Supervisor Gloria Molina expressed her support for KIPP schools in Los Angeles, emphasizing the importance of high-quality public education.
