Dear Daniel,
We are so thankful we get to share with you again this month about all that is going on in the lives of our families. Please celebrate with us as you read this edition of The Restoration Monthly. Oh, and get yourself a ticket to LUNAFEST as well. You won't want to miss out!
Building a Better Future...
Lydia is mother to Maddie, a beautiful 2 year old
little girl with bright eyes and the spunky personality to match! Lydia came to
TRH through some members of her church family who believed Lydia and Maddie
deserved the chance to build a better future for themselves. Lydia came to TRH
already employed, but with a bigger dream of building a career in the medical
field.
With the help of the Tennesee Career Center, Lydia began
exploring her career options, searching for a specific interest that would suit
both her lifestyle as a single mom and her passion for helping others. After
some time, research and assistance Lydia found her interest in the Surgical
Assistance program offered by Tennessee Tech. With her interest peaked, Lydia
quickly began researching and working with the career center to seek out
scholarship for the program. There were many hoops to jump through. Lydia
competed with hundreds of other applicants, standing in line for hours in the
early morning to be the first to turn in information as well as completing and
passing the necessary tests. Several months later, Lydia's hard work paid off
and she was awarded a scholarship for the Surgical Tech program. Today, Lydia
is going to school full time to make the future as bright as can be for she and
Maddie! We are so proud of Lydia for her hard work and dedication! With the
help of TRH, her mentors, as well our partnering organizations like the
Tennessee Career Center, we are seeing that collaboration brings about success,
growth and change in the lives of people who so deserve it!
October 6th
6:30 Doors - 7:00pm Showtime
Social Hour and Silent Auction starting at 5:30
For the last nine years LUNAFEST
has been celebrating women film makers, showcasing their films and
talents in communities across the United States. For the first time
since its inception the national, traveling film festival made its
first stop in Knoxville in 2008. LUNAFEST features short films by, for, and about women. LUNA,
the makers of a nutritional bar for women, wanted to find a way to
support women's issues and give back to the community. In addition to
providing national exposure for emerging female film makers, they also
support one of the most important causes for women today by donating 15
percent of the proceeds nationally to the Breast Cancer Fund. The remaining 85 percent of the proceeds from LUNAFEST Knoxville go directly to The Restoration House of East Tennessee.
Since its inception, LUNAFEST
has raised over $490,000 nationally.
Come early and be the first to bid on some of our amazing silent auction items. Check out a sampling here.
God's Blessings...
God's blessings come in all forms but why I find is they
often come in the form of another person.
All through September, God has been turning The Restoration House upside
with staff moving on to other things and new staff coming in.
Brittany, our latest Family Advocate, has been such a
blessing over her time at TRH. She was
great with the moms and brought a new layer of professionalism to our
program. We are sad to see her go but are
thankful for the new and exciting opportunities she has ahead of her.
At the same time God has brought us two new people to the
team. First, Megan is serving as our Resident
Family Advocate now through this coming May.
She is a second year graduate student at UT's College of Social
Work. She is already proving exceptional. Here is a quick note from her.
We also want to welcome to the team our new Family Advocate, Kim Spoon. Kim is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and
brings over 20 years of experience in the field. It is going to be exciting to see what God does over the coming months as Kim helps each of our families take the nexts steps in their journey toward restoration.
You can read more about Kim and Megan here.
This month we would like to thank a very special young man from
Pulaski, Virginia for his hard work in making a difference at The Restoration
House. Although many of our families work and receive food stamps and other
state subsidies, making the shoe string budget stretch can be very difficult.
Lucas Goad, a young boy scout from Pulaski, Virginia contacted The Restoration
House and asked if he could facilitate a Basic Necessity Drive to benefit TRH's
Participating Families. After just a couple months we were thrilled to pick up
a huge amount of items for our families! Thanks so much to Lucas for improving
daily life for our families through a little time and a big effort!
Thank you so much for your support of single mothers and their children. May we all be restored back to God's good intent for our lives!
Journeying toward Restoration,
Daniel Watson
