Real Property Optimization

Nancy Johnson Sanquist, IFMA
Manhattan Software, Inc.
This Spring a group of dedicated corporate real estate professionals ventured out in this economic downturn to hear what other CREs are doing to assist their organizations in not only surviving, but thriving in an uncertain time.  One of the highlights of this event was the session moderated by Nicole Finger of Cisco Connected Real Estate who introduced Andy Fuhrman, CEO of OSCRE, and Geri Hart, Chief of Asset Management for Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma for their session on 20/20 x 2020:  The US Air Force’s Strategic Plan for Real Property Optimization.  Geri brought hand held devices for the audience to make the session interactive with polling questions peppered throughout the session.  The first query was the make-up of the attendees which proved to be 49% service providers and 36% end users (26% from the private sector and 10% from the public sector).                                 ...Read Entire Article

The Importance of Standards in Today’s
Uncertain Economic Climate

Q: When did you get hit with the OSCRE bug?

A: We had been tracking the Data Standards project from the early days of Keith Perske, David Clute, et al and had an interest since then.  Once Andy Fuhrman took on the role of CEO and built his team, that created a new enthusiasm and drive that gave it more life.  Virtual Premise got significantly involved in one of the early work groups for Work Order Request and Fulfillment, and the enthusiasm of the group, along with the excitement generated when we did the first live data exchange really drove my own enthusiasm for the OSCRE standards work.           ...Read Entire Article

Our New OSCRE Members  New Interest Group Driving Data Standardization
The Open Standards Consortium for Real Estate is a non-profit organization of industry leaders driving development & adoption of e-business standards.
Informed investment decisions and regulatory compliance both depend on reliable risk and portfolio performance data.  Companies answerable to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, for example, must keep their portfolio value market data updated constantly—and that information might come from 100 or more joint venture partners, each of which might compile and transmit data in different ways.

OSCRE recognizes the need for open and interoperable standards for automating the collection and reporting of real property asset and property valuation information, which is gleaned from property management systems, valuation systems and other sources.  Each participant in the investment ecology currently uses its own software applications, templates, formats, and terminology.  The means of collection vary from spreadsheets and printed text to electronic images.
