In case you missed it, the 2017 Lake Havasu Boat Show was a good one!
In fact so good, that it smashed all previous attendance records for visitors and exhibitors.
The weather was perfect and boaters took full advantage of the new London Bridge Channel beach to 'boat to the boat show.'
An exceptional showing of high performance boats, lots of in-water boat demos, a great chili and salsa cook-off
plus two-days of jet ski racing made for a lot of happy faces around Lake Havasu State Park.
Please plan to join us again in 2018 for the 27th Annual Lake Havasu Boat Show, April 6-7-8.

Based upon a recent data report from the California Border Inspection Station at Vidal Junction regarding boats and trailers entering California found to have some level of AIS contamination, anchors and anchor chain/rope appear to be the major means of quagga mussel transport by a wide margin. Lake Havasu Marine Association’s effort to focus more attention on anchors and anchor lines is continuing to make progress.  The wording to be displayed on future production of Slide Anchors has now been finalized and bid requests on the cost of producing and affixing these metal warning/reminder tags to thoroughly clean anchors after every use is underway. comment and suggestions. Given the time frame for finalization of optimum material selection, and best adhesive, an August 2017 target date would coincide with the next scheduled production run of anchors. We will continue to update the progress of this process.

Trending 2:
The current inventory of LHMA AIS rack cards has now been exhausted.  A new rack card with updated information (with greater emphasis on the importance of anchor and anchor line cleaning) is being developed and targeted for completion/printing and initial distribution by Memorial weekend.

Earlier this month, LHMA CEO and president, Jim Salscheider, was honored with the ‘Best Friend 2017’ award at a special recognition ceremony hosted by Arizona State Parks and Trails in Phoenix for his many contributions to the Volunteer Venture Program.  Presenting Jim’s award is Sue Black, Executive Director, Arizona State Parks.

In early January 2017, the Lake Havasu Marine Association launched a new expanded website. As part of that launch package, an AIS Quiz section (featured on the homepage) was created to challenge boaters on their basic knowledge and awareness of the AIS issue.  The quiz consists of seven multiple choice questions which every boater should know. To motivate boaters to take the quiz and test their knowledge, the LHMA offered two free admission passes to the 2017 Lake Havasu Boat Show, April 7-9 (a $10.00 savings). During the month of March, 46 boaters took the quiz bringing the two-month total to 99. Following the Boat Show on April 7-9, the AIS quiz will continue to be offered, this time awarding boaters with two free admission passes to the November 18-19 Sand-Water-RV Expo at Lake Havasu State Park.

Trending 5:
The Lake Havasu Marine Association has concluded its 26th Annual Lake Havasu Boat Show at Lake Havasu State Park with record results – largest paid attendance (up 25% overall) and most exhibitors ever (over 140). An AIS display providing boaters with the latest AIS information and educational materials was staffed by Kate Steighler from Arizona Game and Fish.

The Lake Havasu Marine Association would like to recognize two BLM concessionaire waterfront resorts, Havasu Springs Resort on Lake Havasu and Hidden Shores Resort, Yuma for their continued outstanding participation and support of the LHMA’s “Sticker A Mussel” campaign over the past several seasons.  Both resorts have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the AIS effort informing boaters on how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species when they travel to other fresh water lakes and rivers. We thank them to their support to this important cause.
