Dredging Postponed after 4.5 days due to the accumulation of weeds

Good news and not so good news.
The good news is almost half of the channel dredging project is done. The overall depth of the channel has been increased by approximately 1-1/2' to 2-feet and now ranges in depth from 4-1/2 to over 7 feet from the bottom of the boat. Boats should have no difficulty traveling between the lake and the upper river as long as they stay between the markers.
The not so good news is the remainder of the dredging activity is on a temporary hold. Floating lake weed patches are particularly thick in that general area at the moment due to prevailing wind and current conditions causing frequent clogging of the jet drive intakes on the dredge boat.
Dredging will resume as soon as it is determined that water and weather conditions are more favorable to complete the project, likely in early October.

In the meantime, please help share this information to all who might be interest. All funds raised for “Dredge-Deeper” will be used exclusively for that project. The Lake Havasu Marine Association is a 501-C3 non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible.

September Meeting
Tuesday Sept 15
at Shugrues 6:00

Guest speaker:
Charles Wood, returning Chairman of the Chemehuevi Tribe.

Our early successes on the trash bag posts, receiving a Coast Guard permit on the buoys and dredging the channel were heavily influenced by the unwavering support of the Tribe. Charles lost his bid for a fourth straight three year term in 2012 but was reelected this year. Many exciting projects to update us on. We will also dish out some of our annual awards.

October Meeting
Wednesday Oct 21
at Shugrues 6:00

Guest speaker:
Sue Black , new Executive Director of AZ State Parks.

She has been making improvements in the State Parks system that greatly enhance the customer experience. At long last we will see the improvements at Windsor start and John Guthrie will add more news about changes in the future. This is a great opportunity to thank State Parks for all they do for us. We will also pass out the rest of the volunteer awards.

Starting June 2015, the "Sticker a Mussel" Scorecard added new categories to better reflect area specific activity. Lake Havasu is now its own individual category, Yuma, AZ has its own category (Hidden Shores Village and Lake Martinez), and there is now a "total" category which summarizes the complete scope and reach of the "Sticker a Mussel" campaign since inception. Lake Martinez will begin reporting with the August 2015 report.
