No report from Parker Strip for February due to operational changes and procedural re-training to be instituted in early 2015. The BLM has recently agreed to assist us in our efforts to get the California side RV /campgrounds concessionaires to become more motivated in the AIS effort. BLM is now contacting concessionaires along the California side of the Parker Strip and providing them with the educational tools (as created by the LHMA) to comply with the “Sticker A Mussel” campaign. It is anticipated that this additional partnership with BLM will produce positive numbers and results during the spring and summer boating months.
Note: Boaters (especially snowbirds) were exceptionally active in Lake Havasu during February 2015. Because of additional LHMA launch ramp staff and increased activity at local repair shops, boat dealerships and resort accommodations, “Sticker” counts were dramatically up for the month – 559 Stickers for February 2015 compared to only 46 Stickers in February 2014. Also contributing to this significant increase was the fact that LHMA staffing was present at the Site Six public ramp on a regular basis providing more opportunity to reach new boaters who have not been previously “stickered. This effort will continue in the months ahead.
Annual Update: The LHMA “Sticker A Mussel” campaign has now ended its second full year (March 1, 2014 to February 28, 2015) of operation. In the first year (2013-2014) a total of 4,454 Stickers were applied. In 2014-2015, that Sticker count increased by another 4,745 bringing the grand total of boats Stickered in 24 months to 9,199.
