Trending 1: A big ‘thank you' to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for awarding the Lake Havasu Marine Association with its third grant to support the “Sticker A Mussel” campaign for 2017. When we started this program 44 months ago, we never imagined that we would be this successful in interfacing and educating with so many boaters about the dire consequences of spreading invasive species to our many fresh water resources around the country. We average in excess of 500 direct one-on-one boater contacts per month and look forward to celebrating our 25,000 total contact milestone in early 2017. And thanks to our many tireless LHMA member volunteers who work the launch ramps in less than ideal conditions (it's hot out here in Havasu in the summer). We greatly appreciate this support from U.S. Fish and Wildlife, making it possible for us to do this important work for all boaters.

Trending 2: We had a very successful year with the ASU Havasu classes participating in the Volunteer Mussel Education Program at Lake Havasu State Park.

We met with the students for seven Saturdays beginning September 24th and ending November 5th. We had 39 students participate this year in our mussel education program along with our volunteer adult mentors - Paul Nave, Lee Newbanks, Rita Wolf, Mike Wolf, Jeff Dean, and Rich Miers. The students successfully contacted 232 boaters and provided either new mussel education or updated mussel education during these hands-on sessions at the launch ramp.

Thank you to ASU professor Dr. Sharon Harvey for providing a group of students that were polite and respectful to the boaters contacted. It was a pleasure working with these students who were ALL timely in meeting the adult volunteers at Lake Havasu State Park on their assigned date. Congratulations to the female students for having the most boater contacts this year

Trending 3: The Lake Havasu Marine Association will be launching a new website in January 2017 – including new content and features about aquatic invasive species prevention. Wait for it!
