The 60-day legislative session got under way on January 11, 2010. In this short time frame, legislators will take up many issues of great importance to people with disabilities. The biggest issue facing legislators will be how to deal with this year's projected $2.6 billion dollar budget deficit. The Governor's initial proposed budget includes significant cuts to many essential services and programs that support people with disabilities at home, at work and in the community. There will also be several important policy issues that legislators will take up this session including the recommendations of Facility Closure Commission regarding the closure of institutions and further work to incorporate Respectful Language into state law.
Decisions will be made on all of these important issues. Your voice, your advocacy, your participation and your vigilance can impact the outcome those decisions. The Arc of King County offers support to you in your advocacy. Please join us this session for Advocacy Learning Group and Advocacy Days.
