 10th Annual Sail for the Cure • September 27, 2009 • Portland, Oregon • sailforthecureoregon.net

SFC online registration poised and ready for you!

It’s that time of year again! Sail for the Cure is right around the corner, and we want you to join us for another great year of fun on and off the water.

We are excited to announce that online registration for the Sept. 27, 2009 event began June 15, and will continue until Sept. 20. We are encouraging all of our boat owners and participants to register during July and August, so we can begin assigning crews earlier than usual.

Why? Well, first and foremost, we want to know that you’re going to be with us for another fabulous day of sailing and camaraderie. And, secondly we are hoping crews will be more competitive this year to collect pledges from family and friends.

It’s our 10th anniversary and we want to make this the best Sail for the Cure ever! To register for this year’s event just visit:

West Marine hosts SFC kick-off July 16

Five percent of sales will be donated to this year’s Sail for the Cure

Help us kick off our fund raising efforts July 16, at West Marine’s North Portland store, 1176 N. Hayden Meadows Drive. West Marine has generously offered to host a community day on behalf of Sail for the Cure 2009.

Five percent of the day’s sales will be donated to Sail for the Cure, so please stop by, do some shopping, spend some money and five percent of your total payment will help us end breast cancer forever. If you’re a sailboat owner, you know what you need, and that you can find it at West Marine.

If you are a non-sailboat owner, but need some new gear – pfds, foulies, gloves, shoes and other clothing – stop by and make your purchase when it counts!

The Oregon Women’s Sailing Association (OWSA) will have representatives at the store to answer your questions about Sail for the Cure’s legacy of giving to Susan G. Komen For the Cure; representatives will also share more information about OWSA’s sailing mission and programs available for women sailors of all experience levels.

Thanks to this year's Platinum/ Title Sponsor:

GTS - A division of Pittsburgh Glass Works and a leading software and services provider to the glass industry.

Bras for the Cause contest debuts at SFC

In a first-time appearance at Sail for the Cure, this year’s Bras for the Cause contest will put entrants’ creativity and skills to the test. The goal? To create a human-sized artful-bra, covered completely by the material(s) of your choice. Start out with a dime-store bra and make it shine – sequins, bows, buttons – your own imagination is the limit.

Your bra must be presented on a padded hanger and will be displayed and sold as a part of this year’s silent auction. (If you prefer to take your creation back home with you the night of the event, you can indicate that as well; bras must be claimed at the close of the event.)

The Bras for the Cause entry deadline is Friday, Aug. 18; if you are an OWSA member, we will also accept your submission at our Aug. 13 general membership meeting.
