transactions online—all in one place. Click on the Event Registration link
to sign up yourself, your crew, or your boat; buy a burgee in honor of a loved
one who has either won or lost the battle against breast cancer; and
make a pledge. Simply pay online via OWSA's
Paypal account and you'll be ready to go. Or, if you
prefer registering the old-fashioned way, registration
brochures will be mailed by mid-August. We are looking foward to seeing
you September 27, so please let us know now that you'll be
joining us!
Time is running out to submit your design for Bras for the Cause
The
deadline to submit an entry
is Friday, August 14. Please plan
to have it in on time, or better yet, bring it to our next OWSA General
Membership meeting, at 6:30 p.m. August 12. Raynette Grant, the Bras for
the Cause chairwoman, will be there collecting entries for this fun,
new Sail for the Cure activity! For more information about participating, visit our website.
Pink kayak raffle proceeds to benefit Sail for the Cure
Who doesn't need a pink kayak? The Point of Sail gift shop, on
Hayden Island, is hosting a fabulous fundraising raffle on behalf of Sail for the Cure. Up for grabs is an 11-foot, pink Venus II one-person kayak by Ocean Kayak. Raffle tickets are $5, or five for $20. To see the kayak, visit Island Cafe, 250 NE Tomahawk Island Dr. #D22, which is next to the Point of Sail gift shop.
West Marine event nets over $900!
A hearty thank you goes out to West Marine's North Portland store
for hosting a community day as a kick-off to Sail for the
Cure. Five percent of the day's sales were donated to Sail for the
Cure, totaling $908.20. Another $85 in pledges was
collected. Many customers came in and enjoyed a barbecue during the
evening, and met the women of OWSA, who were on hand
to answer questions about this year's event. Store Manager Chris
Kluever will be at the next OWSA general membership meeting,
August 12, to present the donation.
Make the kindest cut
 Do
you want to do something to help others but lack the time to commit to
long-term volunteering? Donating your hair for cancer victims could be
the solution for you. Anyone can
do it, women or men, young or old. It won't take more than an hour
from your busy schedule and it's a simple way to show you care.
Don’t sweep the trimmings of your hair, little by little, into the
garbage. Instead enjoy a fabulous, shorter style
and donate 8 inches of your hair to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign.
In 2008, OWSA collected a total of 28 ponytails. The campaign collects hair donations and makes—free of charge—real
hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.
OWSA’s donation translated to 4.6 wigs and untold smiles from those who benefitted from the generosity of our donors. Join us and lift
the spirits of women in need without doing more than sitting down to
get a haircut.
Contact hairdonation@gmail.com for more information. Professional stylists will provide free cuts for donors on the day of the event from 9:00 am to noon and 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
