Shorepower To Build 50 New TSE Sites
We are honored to announce that Shorepower and partner Cascade Sierra Solutions have been awarded a $22.2 million grant from the Department of Energy for deployment of truck stop electrification (TSE) infrastructure at 50 sites along major U.S. Interstate corridors including I-5, I-80 and I-95. This award will significantly expand Shorepower's network of Electrified Parking Spaces and be a major step in improving the nation's air quality while saving millions of gallons of diesel fuel.
"We have reached a major milestone in the history of Shorepower. Our expansion will benefit everyone involved, from the truck driver to the family stopping at the travel center who can breathe cleaner air," said Jeff Kim, President of Shorepower.

Intel recently installed dual Shorepower EV charging stations at its Jones Farm Campus in Hillsboro, Oregon under our Portland General Electric partnership program. The green campus also features a 100.8-KW DC solar electric system, which is expected to offset more than 4 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions during its first 25 years.

Shorepower's partner, SynkroMotive has won a contract with Portland's TriMet
transit authority to develop advanced battery technology, electrical
power management, and intelligent controller systems for buses.
This
demonstration project will target
substantial fleet operating cost savings in reduced fuel consumption,
greater efficiency of labor allocation, and a significant reduction in
CO2 tailpipe emissions.

Nissan Unveils Leaf EV
There are currently about 48 different plug-in electric passenger cars and trucks that are in development or on the road, with more arriving daily. Nissan recently made a big splash with the official introduction of it's Leaf electric vehicle, which is scheduled for U.S. introduction in late 2010.
The tail pipe-free Leaf reportedly runs 100 miles on a single charge and will cost no more to buy and run than a traditional gasoline-powered car. Charging time is normally seven hours, although a 30-minute quick charge can get batteries back up to 80% of full power.
The Leaf's advanced technology include an integrated computer system that is connected to a GPS system and global data center, allowing the Leaf to display its "reachable area" on its sat-nav screen, as well as the location of nearby charging stations, like Shorepower's.
Leaf's system can also communicate with the owner's smart phone, sending them emails to let them know their vehicle's charge status and allow users to pre-cool or pre-warm the car while it's charging (thus drawing power from the grid and not depleting the onboard batteries).
