Big Boy's Launches Shorepower
We are proud to announce the Grand Opening of Shorepower Electrified Parking Spaces at Big Boy's Truck Stop in Kenly, North Carolina. Located at exit 105 on Interstate-95, Big Boy's is a full-service stop that will allow up to 24 truck drivers to use electricity for their onboard amenities instead of running their engines. This is the first of its kind in the Southeast. Please join us as we unveil new technology. The event will include a brief demonstration of the electrification pedestals and an overview of the truck plug-in process. Refreshments will also be provided.
Owner Wendi Powell recently wrote an open letter to members of North American Truck Stop Network, an independent group of truck stops. In the letter, she describes the advantages of Shorepower and her take on the future of this technology and how it fits into the truck stop industry.

Idle Reduction By The Numbers
The emphasis being placed on idle reduction in the US is not surprising given the economic and environmental impacts. Consider the following statistics:
- A heavy-duty truck idles 8 hours per night on average, 300 nights per year (2,400 hours per year), emiting over 0.3 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and 21 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).
- A typical diesel vehicle burns one gallon of fuel for every hour of idling.
- A truck idling for one hour suffers wear and tear equivalent to being driven seven miles. (ATA Technology and Maintenance Council)
- Operating life of engine oil is reduced by 75 percent due to prolonged idling – from 600 engine hours to 150 engine hours.
