25th Central Convention Postponed

Due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances which have arisen in the last couple of days, the Central Committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the 25th Central Convention, previously scheduled for May 21-23, until later this year.

While we acknowledge and regret any _JOINinconvenience this short-notice change may result in, we feel that the change may open the door to new opportunities for an even more successful Convention and to tie this Convention more into the important work of building a large, diverse, delegation of Canadian youth and students to attend the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students this December in South Africa. In particular, this offers a chance to integrate the visits of representatives of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, and the South African Student Congress, with organizing efforts.

It also means an opportunity to continue pre-Convention discussion; to deepen it, to issue more discussion bulletins, and to more fully explore the full range of proposals.

New Convention dates will be announced shortly. We hope that all of our friends and comrades both here in Canada, and internationally, will continue to take an interest in our pre-Convention discussion and will join us later this year for our 25th Central Convention.

International Solidarity: Solidarity with youth and students of Puerto Rico

liftarn_A_raised_fistThe World Federation of Democratic Youth has followed with much attention the demonstrations of students that have been taking place in Puerto Rico and that since April 21 have been in strikes against the budget cuts in the public education system in the country as well as as the negative measures of the island’s administration against the University.

It is extremely shameful that still today the imperialist government of the USA, with its hypocrite speech, keeps Puerto Rico as colony, which is unacceptable for us as young anti-imperialist and progressive people of the world particularly in a moment when we are preparing for the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students (in December, in South Africa), which is why we should stand by the youth and students of that country for the achievement of total independence.

Rebel History: 65 years after - never again fascism, never again war!

BerlinOn the morning of May 9 of 1945, 65 years ago, mankind woke up free from nazifascism after the brave Soviet soldiers finally entered Berlin and defeated the hideous Nazi regime. Nevertheless, this victory could only be achieved after a war of suffering for all mankind and destruction of most of Europe, particularly the Eastern side, in which the troops of Nazi and Fascist regimes destroyed and killed all in its way until they were stopped. On this 65th anniversary of the peoples’ victory against Nazifascism we remind the main actor of this victory that freed mankind: the people. It was the popular resistance organized against fascist imperialist offense that defeated fascism. We remind particularly the contribution of the Soviet people, who had to face more than 2/3 of the battlefronts. It is upon that victory, essentially conquered by youngsters, that WFDY was built to ensure that the youth would never again live under fascism and would never have to face war again.
