Help Cincinnati Habitat Build Dreams by Helping to
Launch a Restore!
Help
Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity launch a new business enterprise -- a
ReStore. “ReStore” is Habitat's brand for a store selling used building
materials, appliances, furniture, kitchen cabinets, electrical fixtures, etc.
This is an extension of the thrift industry and has major implications for the
environment, recycling materials that would normally end up in our
landfills.
Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity is organizing a ReStore
Operating Committee that will oversee the management, launching, marketing, donation solicitation and ongoing operation of the ReStore. We
are seeking volunteers with significant retail experience to assist Cincinnati
Habitat for Humanity in this endeavor. If you have an entrepreneurial
bent and would like to assist in this effort, please let us know.
We
have a target opening of Spring, 2010. With that comes an extensive
"to do" list. We need individuals
who have a desire to commit themselves to the launch effort and to partner with
us in its ultimate success. This is not just an oversight committee, but
one where each participant is willing to accept specific assignments that will
assist in the launch. Come join us as we develop this enterprise
that will ultimately assist our mission of providing more affordable housing in
the Greater Cincinnati
area. If you would like to help, contact
us at chfh@cincinnati-habitat.org.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Skilled Electrical Volunteers Needed: Cincinnati Habitat is seeking volunteers
with home wiring skills. Work
environment is an apprentice-like environment and volunteers should be willing
to work one or two days a week during the summer and fall build season. Safety is a critical concern for the wiring
group and no one other than the most experienced team members work with
"live" wires. Initially when
homes are roughed in, wiring begins: outlets are installed, wire
"pulled" to all outlets and smoke alarms, circuit breaker box is
mounted and connections completed. Then,
when the home is near completion, the wiring team returns and installs lighting
fixtures, plugs for outlets, and smoke alarms. It takes approximately 100 man hours to wire
a traditional Habitat home and our growth requires additional electrical team
support.
Volunteers with Rehab Construction Experience Needed: Cincinnati Haibtat is looking for volunteers who can help with preliminary house inspections prior to pursuing a property. Volunteers are needed to:
-
Perform preliminary written inspections and advise our Property Acquisition & Design Manager on whether to pursue full due diligence on a property.
-
Coordinate walk-throughs with potential seller/donor.
-
Communicate all estimates and recommendations to the Construction Manager-Rehabs.
Expected time commitment would be one or two 30-minute walk-throughs per month.
A training session will be held to familiarize volunteers with Cincinnati Habitat's requirements.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator (pdempster@cincinnati-habitat.org).
