Issues of diversity need to be understood by retention-focused supervisors to work effectively with the staff they supervise. Most supervisors have a natural way of working with their staff. Working with differences in staff requires self-awareness, flexibility, and broadening one’s repertoire of responses to ever-changing situations and people coming from a wide variety of cultural contexts. Yet the law informs social work practice, and social workers are often drawn into a variety of court proceedings.
