Hope you’ve seen our snazzy commercial that ran on ABC 33/40, and the promotion featuring First Teachers @ Home, complete with phone bank. We fielded dozens of calls from parents as far away as Montgomery, West Alabama, Talladega, Gadsden & Tuscaloosa, plus lots of calls from Shelby & Jefferson County.
Result- we’re starting a new program in Tuscaloosa and looking at expanding into into other parts of the Black Belt, and other areas in Alabama.
We need help to expand to families clamoring for help in Alabama:
-
50,000 low income kids 3- 4 years old with no access to any Pre-K
-
Many of thse kids show up at the door of their new kindergarten classes with the anxiety of kids facing new challenges plus being wholly unprepared.
-
This is not the kindergarten of our childhood. Five year-olds are expected to learn significant work. But the average poor child walks into that room two months to two years behind middle class children in preparation skills.
More children than we can imagine begin a pattern of failure that continues until they get into high school, hot to drop out at 16. This has serious consequences for them and for us. Getting at the crux of the problem before school unravels for these kids is what First Teachers @ Home is all about.
Groups can start our low-cost program in their communities. It can be a game changer for a huge number of children in Alabama. But we can’t put fuel in our engines with passion alone. We need your help.
First Teachers @ Home has phenomenal outcomes, and virtually every dollar raised goes directly to providing services. Especially now, when every dollar matters, your gift can make a substantive contribution to breaking the cycle of poverty.
