Dear Supporter,

Love the shows this season? You are not alone:

GRSF’s ‘Comedy of Errors” sensational

Comedy of Errors: A Masterpiece at Great River Shakespeare Festival

"Yesterday, I saw one of the best productions of a Shakespearean comedy—any Shakespearean comedy—that I have ever been privileged to see. The Great River Shakespeare Festival has, once again, provided a masterpiece with its Comedy of Errors...." (Read more)

Comedy of Errors at Great River Shakespeare Festival

"The real jewel of this production is the cast. These folks are as good as they come. Professional, talented and so deft with Shakespeare the poetry flows and the iambic pentameter is made as easy to understand as casual, everyday Midwestern conversation. Their energy, exuberance and dash is infectious; they're having fun and soon so is the audience...." (Read more)

Shakespeare's 'Errors' has plenty of comedy

"It's over the top. It's all over the map. And it's highly entertaining. Paul Barnes directed this spectacle, and he's got the usual highly talented lineup of actors to execute it...." (Read more)

Great River Shakespeare Festival's Great Othello

"One of the best reasons to attend the GRSF's Othello is that you'll be able to see Corey Allen play the eponymous role. ... He brings a powerful subtlety to the part, brilliantly acting the most complicated sections of this most complicated play in a way that makes it seem natural and effortless...." (More)

Consider the tragedy of broken trust

"Again this year, the Great River Shakespeare Festival company effectively portrays the human condition in which we all live. Why do we trust others? Why is our trust sometimes misplaced? What are the consequences of losing another's trust?..." (Read more)

Presented by Shakespeare for Young Actors
Friday, July 30th, 1pm in the Performing Arts Center

For three weeks, students age 12 to 17 spend their summer days working with the GRSF company, learning to speak the speech. Shakespeare for Young Actors is in its third year under the direction of GRSF acting company member Andrew Carlson. For the first time, they will present a production, an 80 minute cutting of Henry V.

Don't miss seeing the next generation of talented actors as they go "...once more into the breach."

Free event.

Dr. Peter SaccioOthello: Freedom, Love, Commitment, Claustrophobia

Sunday, August 1, 1:00 PM

When Dr. Saccio saw last week's correction to this newsletter he replied:  "I find your apology for errors in the Festival newsletter charming. There was once a most distinguished Shakespearean editor, who, where the line was to say 'O rogue, rogue!', failed to notice that his edition said 'O rouge, rouge!' "

It is this combination of humanity, humor and encyclopedic knowledge of all aspects of Shakesperean scholarship that has endeared Dr. Saccio to GRSF audiences over the years. The entire GRSF company will be in the house knowing that we will hear a fresh and enlightening perspective on the play we've been working on all summer. Don't miss out.
