Exciting Coaching at AIM Weekend!
Uncover the SECRETS TO A STANDING OVATION
with MARCIA PINVIDIC
at the January 2014 AIM in Sacramento, California. You’ll sing “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” in an AIM chorus as Marcia coaches and leads you through the most important elements of a successful performance. Whether you are performing in your community, on the stage, or in the Open Division of competition, you’ll experience first-hand what it takes to truly connect with your audience. (And isn’t that what performing is all about?)
Besides being the President-elect of our international organization, Marcia continues to be a driving force behind keeping our art form appealing to new generations while keeping our traditional barbershop roots strong. Read about her in the current Pitch Pipe and you’ll see just how committed she is to the musical viability of what we do.
AIM of January 2014 is all about your performances in your community and on the stage. While working on “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” in a large chorus, you’ll have a chance to 1) Crack the Code to the Musical Message, 2) Discover the Power of ONE, 3) Raise Your Expression Score Ten Points, 4) Create a Stand-Out Performance, and 5) Connect with your Audience – Whoever They Are. And you’ll see for yourself, through the magic of video playback, how this AIM chorus transforms from a group singing well together to performers deserving of a standing ovation.
While the AIM chorus works there will be PVIs, quartet coaching, and focus classes in Choosing Competition Music for Quartets, Starting and Strengthening a Quartet Program in Your Chorus, and Music Theory for Sight Reading along with our January YWIH Workshop. To top off everything on Saturday evening there will be the Sweet Expectations Contest and the QDQ Parade. Keep watching the website
for more information about music and handouts.
Join the region in Sacramento for a very exciting weekend.
We ask that you download, print, and bring with you the sheet music.
(It is June Dale’s arrangement of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”) The region must pay $1.75 each time a copy of this music is downloaded. The region has already paid for a basic number of copies, but we are counting on you who already have it not to download it, and for those of you who need to download it, to download only one copy.Hotel Reservations

Please do this as soon as possible to ensure the contracted room rate of $98 per night. Parking at the Doubletree for AIM weekend is free. Pull a ticket and enter the lot and bring that

Mountain Harmony Camp a Huge Success!
Region 12 Mountain Harmony Camp hosted 72 young women singers for a joyful weekend of learning, singing and performing barbershop harmony. With 2014 Queens of Harmony, LoveNotes, serving as section leaders, teaching, encouraging, and performing abounded as the cameras and recorders rolled.
With crowns sparkling, LoveNotes took souvenir photos with every girl (and counselor) who wanted. This amazing weekend experience was created under the expert leadership of Cyndi Sharp (Region 12 Young Women in Harmony Coordinator) and skilled clinician, Shirley Kout, Sound Judge, Director of River Lights Chorus, lifetime member of Mission Valley Chorus, 50 year member of SAI, and International Faculty Emeritus).
Fourteen adult staff (all Region 12 Sweet Adelines and including the in-cabin counselors who not only volunteered their time but also paid their own registration fees) drove for up to five hours to Alliance Redwoods Conference Center to set up and prepare for campers to check in on Friday. They came by car with one to three campers, and a big yellow school bus with over twenty girls and their choir teacher from Oakdale High School arrived to experience the weekend of barbershop harmony together. Games and Ice-breakers involved everyone and everyone had fun. And what fun they had!! From then on it was non-stop learning songs and choreography that campers would perform for their parents on Sunday. Deciding what part to sing, learning that part with LoveNotes, learning choreography and expression … laughing and bonding. At the campfire on Saturday night, campers performed singing skits and a cappella mash-ups for each other before enjoying S’mores. They not only performed for each other but also were a supportive audience as well!
Twenty-three girls were able to attend because of the generosity of choruses and special individuals. Fundraising activities for the camp continue all year so that scholarships can be provided to as many campers as possible for future Mountain Harmony Camps.

Holiday Hysteria: Sierra Gold
Christmas must be just around
the corner, because Sierra Gold is in high gear preparing for our annual
Christmas Show. Our shows are always
audience-pleasers, but this year’s “Holiday Hysteria” show promises to surpass
them all! Under the direction of Ron
Black, Sierra Gold is growing in vocal skills and in numbers on the
risers. We’ve added a dozen members and
have around 2 dozen guests singing with us for the Christmas season-hopefully a
lot of them will decide to audition and continue making wonderful Barbershop
harmony with us after the show.
“Holiday Hysteria” takes
place on Saturday, December 14 at 2PM at Combie Bible Church, 22924 West
Hacienda Drive, Grass Valley (just outside of Lake of the Pines). We’re excited to have Region 12’s first place
quartet, FlipSide, performing on the show.
Also appearing will be the Placer High School Chamber Choir. Advance sale tickets are $15.00 for general
admission, and $7.00 for youth 16 & under.
Tickets are available online or by calling Joan Frink at 530-367-3532 or any
Sierra Gold member. At the door general
admission will be $18.00. A word to the
wise: this could very well be a sell-out, so don’t put off getting your
tickets. It’s a great way to get the
holiday season off to a wonderful start.
Thanks from Rogue
Rogue wants to thank Region 12 for being so welcoming and wonderful to us these last few months. We have been overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from our new Region 12 sisters and are looking forward to many happy years together both in our quartet and chorus. Thanks for the beautiful leis we received in Hawaii - what fun it was to wear those around. Hawaii was a great experience and we are THRILLED that Region 12 has 4 new fantastic queens of harmony in LoveNotes! Susan Riemer, Martha Segura, Lisa Shortridge and Elizabeth Dyer - Rogue
