A note from the Rector.....
It is flu season once again.
There are several things we can do to help prevent the spread of the flu. If you are sick, please stay home. This is probably the only time I will tell people not to come to church! Don't forget, though, that the Book of Common Prayer can be used at home for private devotions.
Secondly, please remember basic hygiene. Wash your hands thoroughly and, if you have children, please help them do the same. We have bottles of hand sanitizer in all rooms of the church and education building. Please use them liberally.
During the sign of peace, it is perfectly acceptable, not to shake hands or hug. A bow of the head, a smile, and "The peace of the Lord be with you" will do the job. A few flu seasons back, we introduced the St. Andrew's elbow touch. St. Andrew's folks tend to be extroverted, so touching elbows is another way to pass the Peace.
There has been some concern about sharing the common cup. It is always permissible to receive communion in only one kind. You may receive just the host. If you do this, please cross your arms over your chest when the chalice bearer comes by. Chalice Bearers, please hold the chalice before these people and continue to say, "The Blood of Christ, the cup of salvation." Intincting is the most efficient way of spreading germs. So please, if you choose to intinct, please be careful to keep your fingers from touching the wine. If you have children, you may wish to help them. The most proper way to do this is to give the host to the chalice bearer, who will perform the intinction, and then place the host on your tongue.
I'm praying that we all stay well.

Fall Focus on Ministry
Our ministry Sundays continue next Sunday with the Stewardship Ministries. The seven Stewardship ministries, Facilities Committee, Finance Committee, Foyers, Hospitality Committee, Lay Eucharistic Visitors, Vestry and Welcoming Committee work to ten the life of our parish - our people, buildings and future. You are invited to learn more about these vital ministries and the many ways they respond to God's call for us to be stewards of our community and its resources. Join the Stewardship ministries in Carmichael Hall after the 10 a.m. service.
The Albany AIDS Walk
A small but determined group of walkers from St. Andrew's raised $487 in support of services for Capital District residents living with HIV and/or AIDS. Thank you to all who donated and walked (despite the rainy weather!).
Shop Sunday
The days are getting shorter and summer is fading fast! The workers at The Shop invite the parish to celebrate Fall with a tour of the The Shop! Sunday October 25th after the 10 a.m. Eucharist, The Shop will be open for touring and shopping. Grab some apple cider and donuts as you browse through the sweaters and coats.
Pumpkin Sunday
The Eve of the Feast of All Saints is coming! Sunday, October 25th, after the 10 a.m. service, kids (and kids at heart) are invited to carve a pumpkin in celebration. All the necessary supplies will be in the old Choir Room downstairs below Carmichael Hall. Non-carving adults are invited to enjoy Shop Sunday next door!
9th Annual Missions Conference
The Diocese of Albany invites you to the Annual Missions Conference at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, Saturday, October 24th, 9 to 4 p.m. Join us to learn, celebrate and pray for the exciting mission activities of the churches in our Diocese. Displays and workshops will focus on the wide ranging mission activities that are taking the love of Christ into the world. In addition to the traditional workshops, you will be able to hear about some amazing mission activities from Albany to Africa in a Missions Fair venue. Hear about our mission teams sent to Appalachia, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Ireland, Louisiana and Nigeria. Learn how we have ministered at home with food, clothing, rescue, shelter and counseling efforts. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Linda Stevens at LFStevens (at) aol.com or 518-279-9612.
