Peony Display and Workshops Sunday May 20
From 12 to 4:30 pm

Garden Tours at 12:30 and 2:30 pm. 
Tour at 12:30 pm will be in Cantonese.

Enjoy a display of one of China's most beloved flowers. Attend a 12:30 demonstration on flower arrangement or a 1:30 workshop on how to grow bush and tree peonies and learn about their symbolic cultural meanings.
 
The Puget Sound Sumi Artists will exhibit their paintings and give demonstrations in the Chan Education Center.

Brick Wall Unveiling at 11:30 am on Sunday May 20

If you donated a brick before May 18, you and your guests are invited to the May 20th unveiling ceremony. Bricks donated before March 15th will be on the wall. Light refreshments will be served. After the brief ceremony, you are invited to view the peony display and stay for the afternoon workshops.

Relax and Rejuvenate with Tai Chi in the Garden

Learn and practice movements and techniques from Yang-style tai chi and Qigong breathing. International gold medalist Restita DeJesus of the Seattle Wushu Center has taught martial arts and tai chi for more than 30 years. 

Drop-in class will be held in the Courtyard. Admission: adults $6, seniors and students $5, free to Garden members and Seattle residents.

Summer Photography Workshop with Ray Pfortner

Adults and teens with any digital camera and a love of photography will enhance their camera handling and composition skills during this workshop. Exclusive early morning and moonlit access allows you to capture unusual Garden shots. Your photos will be in a juried show. Learn how to select, frame, price, and promote your work.

Tuition: $220 ($200 for Garden members). Materials: $20.

First Bamboo Festival Draws a Crowd

On April 22, more than 200 people enjoyed a sunny day in the Garden while admiring and buying bamboo plants and attending workshops on making bamboo kites and on bamboo's role in Chinese culture. Bike frames made of bamboo attracted a lot of attention.

We thank our co-sponsors, American Bamboo Society's Pacific Northwest Chapter for all their work, the Puget Sound Sumi Artists for their demonstrations, and the participating companies.



More than 35 teachers attended A Gate to Understanding Chinese Gardens on May 9th. This continuing education Global Classrooms workshop was organized by the World Affairs Council (WAC) with co-sponsorship of the Seattle Chinese Garden and the Confucius Institute of Washington. Thanks to Tese Neighbor of WAC and docent Sandy Marvinney for introducing the Garden as a venue for learning about Chinese culture.

Feng Shui in Asian Gardens.
Presentation by Liu Ming, Daoist practitioner and feng shui master from California. The program includes a Garden site tour focused on feng shui aspects.

Saturday docent tours are at 1 pm.
