STORM UPDATE FROM LESLIESaturday afternoon, while waiting for the full onslaught of Hurricane Irene from my vantage point on the ocean, I heard words on the Weather Channel that I hoped never to hear together in the same sentence – “Bethany Beach” and “Tornado”. It wasn’t true!Other than that momentary scare, everything turned out fine in both Bethany and Fenwick. Overall damage was minimal. Yes, the dunes at the south end of South Bethany failed again, letting in water between the houses and the reconstructed dunes. But the impact seems less than the last Nor’easter. Fenwick Island beaches look great thanks to the recent reconstruction project. Pennsylvania Avenue in Bethany flooded but not much more than from normal heavy rains. We fared well. Town officials are now finishing the minor repairs and needed cleanup. In just a few days we can have a wonderful final weekend of the summer with all the traditional celebrations of Labor Day with family and friends.
