Boca Restaurant Group is asking for your help in support of a locally based Haitian foundation in desperate need.
Jean Cadet Restavek Foundation
Today through January 30th, customers of Boca and Nada restaurants are called to support the Jean Cadet Restavek Foundation, a locally based charity that cares for Haitian children and is in desperate need after last week's earthquake.

Guests at BOCA and nada have the opportunity to donate several ways now through January 30th.

  • Diners may choose to add a dollar amount to their check under a separate category clearly marked for relief.  This money will be immediately transferred to the Jean R. Cadet Restavek Foundation for relief effort.
  • Guests may purchase an

Right now, in Port-Au-Prince, a Cincinnati-based foundation that works to abolish child slavery in Haiti is assisting other agencies in the immediate relief of over 450 displaced and desperate earthquake victims-in addition to trying to locate the hundreds of unaccounted for children from their program, deliver them to safety, and provide direct relief to their schools. Because the Foundation's office remains intact, and because they already have an established team on the ground and long-standing relationships, they are in a unique position to meet the needs of those affected by the devastation.

"We're thankful we happened to be here and are in a position to do what we can," said Ray Conn, president of the Foundation. "The problem is that most people are living in the streets and there is no real way to find the people whose homes were destroyed. Let's hope we are able to find them."

The Foundation has a small clinic in place but money for supplies and rebuilding efforts is critical. The situation at the compound, where they are staged, remains volatile.

"There is an immediate need, and we want to do what we can by helping directly and also enabling our patrons to be a part of the relief efforts," said David Falk, president of the Boca Restaurant Group.
The slogan, I am Haiti Too represents the voices of the estimated 300,000 enslaved children ("restaveks") who are suffering in Haiti, now more than ever. Their voices must be heard and their cause supported. Their cry for freedom is now a matter of life and death.
I am Haiti Too runs from January 18th through January 30th. For more information on the Jean R. Cadet Restavek Foundation and how to donate online, visit www.restavekfreedom.org. You may also link to the foundation through www.boca-restaurant.com.
