Woodcraftsman Bob Jones hand carves Lees-McRae shield from mahogany as a gift for President Barry Buxton This striking shield now adorns the office of President Buxton in the historic Rock House. Jones, the brother-in-law of President Buxton, is a painter, sketch artist and craftsman, and is retired from the faculty of the College of Education at Appalachian State University. Read more.

Lees-McRae launches Monday afternoon farmers' market on Tate Lawn from 5-7 p.m. The student club LOCAL organized the market to bring local and organic foods to campus through partnerships with Avery and Watauga County farmers. Read more.
