> The Importance of Preventative Maintenance
During the past 12 months, the concept of scheduled maintenance has become more popular among foodservice operators. This is likely due to the challenging economy, which has operators from all industry segments trying to maximize the service life of the foodservice equipment in their kitchens. While the renewed interest in scheduled maintenance is good, it’s equally important for the operator to see this as a value-added program and not a necessary evil.
> DanaTech: Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens if I don’t change my filters, does the quality deteriorate?
A: No, regardless of the quality of the water going into an Everpure filter, the quality coming out is exactly the same. Our filters provide consistent quality throughout their life. The filters will completely stop if you don’t change them, forcing you to do so!

Q: Why do cartridges have to be flushed when first installed?
A: All carbon-based filters need to be flushed to remove any excess carbon fines that are inside the cartridges. New cartridges are filled with air; so it is critical to flush, or purge them. This also removes the air from insde the cartridge and replaces it with water.

Q: I just flushed my filter and the water is cloudy, why is that?
A: That cloudiness is just air. The air that was trapped inside the fresh cartridge was filtered as it was purged through the filter upon activation. If you take a freshly filtered glass of water and set it on the counter, watch as the water clears from the bottom up, it's just the air releasing. Depending upon how often you use the filter, it could take a few hours or a few days to clear.

> DanaStats: Arsenic Contamination in Canada
Arsenic is commonly associated with deadly toxins since it was a poison of choice throughout history. Arsenic is a metal that naturally occurs in certain rocks formations and soil layers. It is commonly found mixed with gold, copper and silver ores and is released naturally into air by volcano emissions. Most arsenic compounds are odourless, tasteless and readily dissolve in water.
> Issues of WaterCareParticles in Drinking Water
Although water may appear to be clear, it always contains many microscopic particles, some of which can make water taste funny and even be dangerous to your health. There are many types of particles, and the tiniest sub-micron sized particles may number in the millions per milliliter of water.
> Techi-Tips: Ultraviolet (UV)
Ultraviolet (UV) light is electromagnetic radiation at the invisible end of the light spectrum that has short wavelength and high energy. The sun emits UV light but most of it is absorbed by the Ozone layer in the atmosphere. Direct exposure to UV radiation can have detrimental health effects as it affects the DNA structure of cells. However, this energy can be utilized in water disinfection.
