Pre-College Open House
May 7, 10am-Noon
Porteous
The Pre-College program gives high schoolers the opportunity to experience the life of an art college student by taking classes all day for one month and living in the residence hall. During the Open House, interested students talk to staff members about the application process, meet faculty members, and tour the campus and studios.
Commencement
May 15, 1pm
State Theatre, 609 Congress Street
This 100th commencement marks the completion of the curriculum for 74 students in the undergraduate program who will receive Bachelor of Fine Art degrees and 11 students in the graduate program who will receive Master of Fine Art in Studio Art degrees. William Pope.L is the commencement speaker. Doors open at noon, no tickets are required.

This year, the College presents the Award for Entrepreneurship in the Arts to businesswoman Roxanne Quimby, the Award for Leadership in Art Philanthropy to longtime arts supporters Betsy Evans Hunt and Christopher Hunt, and the Award for Leadership in Art Education to Janet Conlon Manyan, a painting faculty member in the Continuing Studies program.

Pre-College students get to a taste of art school life by staying in the Oak Street Residence Hall, located in the heart of the Portland Arts District, one block from the Porteous Building. Pre-College runs from June 26 - July 23.
Art Honors is MECA's annual celebration of leadership in the arts in Maine. The festive event showcases the artwork of graduating students and recognizes the value of education, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy. The event will be held in the Porteous Building on May 19.

Congratulations to MECA Printmaking Faculty member Elizabeth Jabar, winner of Maine Campus Compact's 2011 Donald Harward Faculty Award for Service-Learning Excellence.
MECA's Online Job Opportunities portal (MOJO), allows employers to post internships and jobs viewable only to MECA students and alumni.
Faculty member Scott Nash illustrated a new book, "Catch That Baby," written by Nancy Coffelt and published by Aladdin.
Each summer the college awards residencies to alumni and faculty at the Pace House in Stonington, Maine and the Baie St Marie Artist and Family Residency at the Jenny Family Compound in New Edinburgh, Nova Scotia.

MECA students Rosie Allard, Sarah Capra, Carly Soos, Liz Long and Judi Ferry stand in front of the nature-inspired art objects they created using repurposed blue wrap from hospitals. As participants of Blue Wrap Project Runway, the students helped raise funds for Partners for World Health which distributes medical supplies to developing countries.
