Urban Agriculture off the truck and onto the cargo bike! People's Grocery has linked up with Xtracycle to put People's Grocery staff, volunteers, and interns on massive cargo bikes to take petroleum out of the picture and have fun while doing it!
Imagine the possibilities! We will be transporting our locally harvested produce from our 3 Oakland gardens and greenhouse via Xtracycles, as well as our plant starts, tools, and raw compost for our worm bins. With 1 out of 3 children and 57% (66% for African Americans and 71% for Latinos) of adults in California suffering from obesity; cargo bikes in West Oakland will not only provide a more eco-friendly and economical way to grow in the city, but will also provide a great venue for exercise. Look out for some fresh cargo bikes on your city block. You can help by making a donation to help People's Grocery go green with Xtracycle cargo bikes.
