Show someone you love them. Do it with hearts, notes, and kind deeds. Laura Sherman, WMSS Area Coordinator, has a nice habit at the end of the day. She thanks us, as we leave the office. It’s catching…and a good reminder to appreciate each other. “Thank you, Laura.”

SCRUMPTIOUS FOOD, ART-FILLED ROOM, AND DARN GOOD COMPANY
Fire-roasted chicken, steaming mashed potatoes, lightly sautéed fresh vegetables and a crisp salad of organic greens - sound enticing? Nearly sixty seniors savor meals like this every week at the wildly successful San Geronimo Valley Community Center’s (SGVCC) Senior Lunch. The food is prepared by Fairfax’s own Good Earth, owned by dedicated and longtime Valley residents Al and Lisa Baylacq. Every Thursday a half-dozen faithful volunteers roll out tables, chairs, even spread fresh tablecloths and folded napkins to “ready the room” at the Community Center for lunch at high noon. Cheerful greeters welcome each guest with a bright smile and a helping hand.

Richard James
WMSS Area Coordinator Laura Sherman attends each week, visiting each table, greeting folks and, most important, listening to community members and helping them link with needed resources and services. Whether it’s counseling a baby boomer about securing home care services for an aging parent, helping a non-driving Woodacre senior get a ride, delivering durable medical equipment, or refilling someone’s coffee cup, she serves as a senior advocate with The Community Center team.

Together, SVGCC and WMSS bring programs specifically for our older adult lunch attendees. We recently hosted a presentation by senior real estate advisor Bruce Wrisely on the topic of “Stay or Move: The Senior Housing Dilemma.” The room was packed to capacity! Bruce is an authority on what to consider when deciding whether to leave your home or age in place. We hope to bring him to another community in West Marin soon.
MEALS FROM FRIENDS
Volunteers are at the heart of our home-delivered Meals from Friends program. An average of 170 meals a month are prepared and delivered to home-bound seniors in West Marin—warm, nutritious, home-cooked meals, delivered by a caring person directly to a senior’s home.
(Cook, Diana Muhic and grand-daughter Sophia Arroyo, Lagunitas)
Diana Muhic has been generously cooking for the seniors in the San Geronimo Valley for many years. Her meals are a feast for the eye as well as the palate. A senior who is alone, sick or recovering from an illness gets more than a home-cooked meal. When Debi Seymour delivers a meal, she shares a warm smile and checks on the senior’s well-being, providing a connection to our community.

These are examples of kind deeds. We see them every day. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
