Joan Corbett, Executive Director
Welcome to the premier issue of West Marin Senior Services eNews. Coming out monthly, or more frequently if appropriate, this eNews is intended to be a short read, informative, and appealing. I welcome your feedback at jcorbett@wmss.org to help make it work! I encourage you to send this to a friend who might want to learn more about our services.
In the Know… Charging for Services
West Marin Senior Services has quietly moved forward to charge a nominal fee for its services. This has been a long-time coming in order to ensure that our agency will be here for many generations to come. Our fees are based on a monthly charge only if services are provided during that month, and most people use our services just a few months out of the year. We use a sliding scale, so clients who make less than $24,000 a year will continue to receive ALL of our services for free. Fees range from $0 - $200 per month based on income.
Our nominal monthly fee covers the following:
- Developing care plans and resources to live long, live well, live at home.
- Screening and referring homecare workers.
- Matching friendly visitors with seniors who want a companion.
- Making referrals to volunteer or paid drivers.
- Providing referrals for nutritious meals.
- Assisting in completing forms for housing, social security and other benefits.
- Providing grants to family caregivers to relieve the stress of ongoing care.
- Coordinating with physicians and providing support for their advice.
The following services are provided free of charge to all older adults and their families in West Marin:
- Free annual assessment
- Free homecare equipment, such as walkers and wheelchairs
- Free workshops, support groups, exercise classes and senior activities to promote healthy lifestyles (unless the class itself has a fee)
- Occasional referrals to volunteer or paid drivers.
We look forward to serving you, your family, and neighbors as we age with dignity in beautiful, rural West Marin.
