We Have An Announcement!
America has a new Master Distiller...
Marko Karakasevic releases Doubled & Twisted Light Whiskey as his final thesis! It was a long, colorful apprenticeship under his father, Grand Master Distiller Milorad (Miles) Karakasevic. Together they distilled all four of the major spirits groups as well as adding a new one.
The family maintains strict guidelines for the honor of becoming a Master Distiller. There were no shortcuts.
So how did he do it? His final test was to source and bring to market a spirit that he distilled & packaged by himself that was equal to or better then any spirit he'd distilled under his Master during his apprenticeship.
Marko's thesis is a light whiskey called 'Doubled & Twisted Light Whiskey'. Light whiskey is a government category. When he told Miles that he'd just sold the first case, Miles shook his hand and said: "Congratulations. Now you are a Master Distiller."
Marko Introduces
'Doubled and Twisted Light Whiskey' (D&T)
In 2004 I distilled D&T Whiskey in our copper Alambic Charentais Pot Still. The base for the whiskey was a great IPA beer made here in Northern California. It was aged for one day in old oak barrels, (that's what classifies it as a Light Whiskey). I moved it into a stainless tank and cut it to 99 proof.
After four years of aging, the hops jump out and offer a fruity, floral and very green spicy flavor. The 2-row malted barley flavors come through, too. It’s very smooth - friends have a hard time believing it's 99 proof! I bottled it in 1 Liter jugs.
There are 135 cases/9 packs.
I have more jugs to fill so enjoy the whiskey and I'll get back to distilling!
We drink it neat or with a couple cubes of ice.

This is Marko's photo of the fresh
whiskey at the Doubled & Twisted moment as it's coming out of the still.
The term Doubled & Twisted refers to during the second distillation of whiskey in a copper pot still, at about 162 proof, the distillate coming out of the still twists on itself like a double helix. This is when the best tasting whiskey is distilling over.
