Delicious Blues Stew is a Bluesiana party band covering bayou blues styles such as Baton Rouge & New Orleans blues, zydeco, Cajun, second line and Mardi Gras music.  The Stew delivers good-time Bluesiana Music with a strong Mardi Gras flavor. One observer notes that "no one comes away from a Stew gig unscathed."  Serious musicians serious about having a serious good time!  Serious stuff!

wynonna.jpgCountry music star Wynonna says this about the Stew:
"When I know that Delicious Blues Stew is playing in town, I always smile.  I have the greatest memory of the first time I ever saw them play.  I happened to be at the Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar in Nashville with my mother.  We were there to see Jimmy Vaughan, and after his set, they came on stage.  The next thing I know my mother and I were dancing in the aisles.  They groove my brains out!!!  You need to experience the joy and celebration in their music like I have.  It’s truly a healing experience."

The United States Senate and the House of Representatives has named September "National Gospel Music Heritage Month" for the third year in a row. This legislation passed by the House and the Senate designates September 2010 as "Gospel Music Heritage Month," recognizing gospel music for its long-standing positive influence in American culture.  PAART will celebrate the heritage of gospel music with a special evening of Sacred, Spiritual and Gospel Music with the Wendel Werner & Friends.  This performance will take place at the beautiful, historic Palace Theatre, 72 South Main Street, Crossville, on September 3rd at 7 pm central/8 pm eastern.

Wendel Werner is a composer, director, recording artist, performer and professor of music at the University of Tennessee.  He devotes time to almost every aspect of music and he possesses immense talent not only as a Jazz Performer, but many other genres as well.  PAART asked Mr. Werner to put together a very special evening of music celebrating our nation’s Gospel music heritage.  Joining Wendel will be three very talented vocalists Danielle Madison, Katy Free and very special guest, Crossville's own Amanda Stephens Lewis.

Tickets for Wendel Werner & Friends are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased with cash or check at the Palace Theatre, 72 South Main Street, Crossville.  Or you may purchase your tickets with a credit card by calling the Cumberland County Playhouse Box Office at 484-5000 or online at www.ccplayhouse.com (a small convenience fee will apply.)  More information about the “First Friday” performance series and about PAART and the can be found at www.performingartsalliance.org.

Australian blues artist Geoff Achison will make a stop at

CrGeoff-Achison-poster.jpgossville’s own Palace Theatre as a  part of his 2010 summer tour of the United States.  This is a special presentation of PAART and will take place in addition to our regular First Fridays event in September.  This exciting performance will take place on Friday, September 10th at 7 pm central/8 pm eastern.

Geoff Achison has a reputation as a formidable acoustic and electric guitarist, a capable vocalist and a composer of good, funky songs.  Having taught himself to play in the isolation of rural Australia, Geoff Achison has developed a blues/funk style all his own that can be delicate one moment and explosive the next. Unaware of how the sounds he was hearing on his limited record collection were produced, he invented some of his own techniques - without the aid of pedals or gadgets. As a result, watching this guy wrench sounds from his simple set-up can be something of a spectacle. Geoff also possesses a soulful voice that has evoked favorable comparisons to Joe Cocker or Warren Haynes. An award winning songwriter to boot, Geoff’s live set features an infectious mix of catchy original tunes, improvised jamming and inspired versions of blues & soul classics. He has toured regularly around the globe and won honors on 3 continents. Years of touring, recording and performing has seen him share stages and open shows with such high caliber artists as Jorma Kaukonen & Hot Tuna, John Mayall, Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown, Hubert Sumlin, Levon Helm and Delbert McClinton.  Growing up in the small town of Malmsbury, Geoff somehow developed a passion for American blues music and taught himself to play on a beat up instrument he discovered 'under the stairs' of the family home. In his early 20's he found employment as lead guitarist with Melbourne's top blues band 'Dutch Tilders & The Blues Club'. After 5 years relentless touring around Australia Geoff departed to pursue his own musical ideas and formed the first incarnation of his own band 'The Souldiggers'. “The idea was to have a name that described the music and I greatly admired the blues philosophy - tapping into one’s soul for honesty and truth. That’s what ‘Souldiggers’ is meant to convey.” He formed his own Jupiter 2 Records in 1994 with fellow music enthusiast Nic Quittner and released the first of many recordings of his original blues/funk/soul flavoured materiel Big Machine followed by Genevieve '95 and Mystery Train in 1996 Geoff started his worldwide explorations in 1995 with his first trip to the USA. He represented the Melbourne Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and won the coveted Albert King Award for his guitar skills. He went on to accept an endorsement deal with the Gibson guitar company's acoustic division. He formed a US based Souldiggers group in 1998 and recorded his 3rd album 'Gettin' Evil' in Portland, Oregon. His list of awards is formidable.

Tickets for Geoff Achison & the Souldiggers are $15 for adults and $8 for students and can be purchased with cash or check at the Palace Theatre, 72 South Main Street, Crossville.

The Singing Tortoise

The Singing Tortoise. In this West African folk tale, a hunter named Ama meets a magical singing tortoise. Once Ama befriends the tortoise, she tries to teach him that man is simply a visitor on earth who needs to respect all things. This cautionary tale about the connection of all living beings on our planet features elaborate masks that represent animals and chieftains. The choreography by Paul Vasterling is set to an infectious percussion score composed by Belmont University professor Todd London.
