A Biographical Series of His Eminence Kyabje Choegye Rinpoche
"...Remembering and honouring a teacher who has brought Dharma into one’s life will increase the merits even many years after his passing away..."
Lama Choedak Rinpoche
As part of the new online edition Clear Mind we are pleased to offer a series of excerpts from a new biography of His Eminence Choegye Trichen Rinpoche written by Lama Choedak Rinpoche.
"…His Eminence Kyabje Chogye Trichen Rinpoche is one of the most senior and revered lamas in the entire Tibetan Buddhist world of this century.
The genealogy of Kyabje Chogye Trichen Rinpoche belongs to the blessed Che clan of Zhalu Kushang Monastery. The Che clan is one of the earliest aristocratic clans of Tibet which includes Se, Dro, Bha, Chim, Chokro etc.
Members of the Che clan had entered the Buddhist path even before the time of the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the early seventh century, and were later among the disciples of Guru Padmasambhava...
...Remarkably, each generation of the Kushang family produced at least four sons, the majority of whom took their place as throne holders of important monasteries in Tibet, including Nalendra, Zhalu, and Ngor..." more>> |

Buddhism for Beginners -
A new course by Lama Choedak Rinpoche
"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: It transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural and spritual; and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity."
Albert Einstein
To welcome spring in the nation's capital after a long winter, a timely new course on Buddhism for beginners is being offered. Lama Choedak Rinpoche will explain some of the fundamental topics unique to Buddhist teachings in an informal setting where audience members can interact and engage in dialogue with ample opportunity for Question and Answer time at the end of each session. Numbers are limited, please book early. more >>
37 Factor of Enlightenment

Below we continue summarising Lama Choedak Rinpoche’s 2005 teachings on the 37 Factors of Enlightenment.
The Seven Limbs of Enlightenment are: mindfulness; thorough investigation; diligence; joyfulness; refined rapture; concentration; and equanimity. At this exalted level, one is required to understand what enlightenment is in order to consider attainment of the Seven Limbs of Enlightenment. Briefly, one can say that enlightenment means knowing the nature of reality as it is. Having transcended one’s own notion of self or ego-centrism, one has accomplished all the qualities and exhausted all the faults. One who is enlightened has infinite wisdom and compassion and wields enormous influence for the benefit of others, to empower them with enlightening attributes in their own way of being. more >>
How the Earth and Humankind Came About
... or, "Why We Like Chocolate So Much"
By Jamyang Tsultim
Once upon a time, this great earth was mingled up with waters. Then, on the face of the great earth, a wind blew, solidifying and concentrating the creamy, rich surface. Just as air blowing over the surface of a bowl of soup solidifies and concentrates it into a ‘skin', likewise this wind blew over the surface of the earth, solidifying and coagulating it. This coating, known as ‘the essence of the earth' (prithivirasa), had an exquisite colour, a delicious taste, and a delightful fragrance; it was coloured like butter, and it tasted like uncooked honey . more >>
