"Talk to Me", an exhibit at MoMA

Talk to Me explores the communication between people and things. All objects contain information. In some cases, objects like cell phones and computers exist to provide us with access to complex systems and networks, behaving as gateways and interpreters. Whether openly and actively, or in subtle, subliminal ways, things talk to us, and designers help us develop and improvise the dialogue.

neon sculpture by Ugo Rondinone coming to Grand Rapids, Michigan.

silenceIn 1987 a group of gay artists and critics founded ACT-UP/ New York (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), an organization aimed at promoting equality through demonstration and public actions. Through the contributions of such artists as Keith Haring and the group Gran Fury ACT-UP introduced a pink triangle into the gay activist lexicon, most notably as a sculpted neon version of the symbol. Contemporary artist Ugo Rondinone is keenly aware of the impact and implications of this legacy and exemplified in works such as Big Mind Sky. Ugo’s large neon sculpture oscillates between feelings of restraint and liberation under the label of gay activist art.silence haring
