Milk Crates, and Chairs, and Barrels, OH MY!

IMG_1491
On Saturday, April 25th, community volunteers, neighbors, and friends from local businesses like WholeFoods in Medford, local universities such as Tufts University, and local clubs like the Mystic River Rugby Club all gathered together to beautify their local park, DCR Torbert MacDonald Park in Medford. Volunteers collected enough trash to fill two massive truck loads and enough tree limbs and branches to fill a third truck. Clothing, milk crates, barrels, and furniture were gathered into piles and hundreds of garbage bags were filled with plastic bottles, wrappers, and cigarette butts. We cannot thank our community of volunteers enough, along with Our Outhouses Inc. and Dunkin Donuts in Medford for helping improve the condition of MacDonald Park and making Medford a better place to live, eat, work, and play!

Mystic River Science Forum Draws a Crowd
CCKKosfW0AA7OQJThe Mystic River Watershed Initiative Science Forum on Thursday, April 9th drew a crowd of excited and inspired individuals all motivated to improve the water quality of the Mystic River and its' tributaries.  The forum included presentations and discussions about local water quality, including current conditions and trends. The presentations from the speakers at the Science Forum are posted on MyRWA's website, follow this link to view

Community Volunteerism by Boat!
elizabeth-1
Get outside and get active this summer by signing up your business, church or community group to help remove water chestnut, an invasive plant, from the Mystic River. Groups will remove this plant by hand from canoes as part of your community service project. We have worked with many organizations and companies over the past five years, including Google, FedEx and Citizens Bank, and supply all the materials and expertise necessary. This event is a lot of fun! Contact Patrick at 781-316-3438 or waterchestnut@mysticriver.org today.

Do You Use the Malden River?

MaldenRiverThe Mystic River Watershed Association and Friends of the Malden River are conducting a survey on recreational use and property values along the Malden River and would like for you to participate!

Depending on how much you use the Malden River, the survey should take between 10 and15 minutes to complete. Your responses will help us better understand how people are using the Malden River and how they might like to use it in the future. We sincerely appreciate your input and thank you in advance for your participation.

Please take the survey here and share with your friends and colleagues!
