The Voice for Choice

Hello Friend!

School Choice Tax Credits:
Still In Effect and a Win-Win-Win for AZ

Inline Image
WIN for Arizona: This program SAVES the state of Arizona money. Consider this -- $55 million in tax credit revenue was generated in 2008. Additionally, 28,000 students received an average scholarship of $1,900. The tax credit program accounts for an estimated 1% of the State’s total expenditures for public education. (Smaller than you thought? Unfortunately yes...supporters of education reform have some work to do. However, this should highlight that recent opposition in the media, coordinated by the ACLU, is a deliberate attack on the movement toward school choice, not a program that allegedly costs the state money.) Without this program, private school enrollment will decline as families will have no choice but to send their kids to public school, especially given the declining economic conditions and resulting loss of household income... Myth vs. Reality
The Truth About School Choice Programs

Inline Image
Myth: School choice drains funds from public schools that need it most.
Reality: Studies have consistently demonstrated that, with private school choice programs, school districts retain a portion of the funding for each child who leaves the public system. In effect, while some of the money “follows the child” in school choice programs, districts still retain a portion of the per-pupil funding, even though they don’t have to educate the student.

Myth: Private school choice is unconstitutional because it sends government money to religious schools.
Reality: The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that appropriately-designed private school choice programs are fully Constitutional. School choice is based on the core beliefs that: a) the ‘government’s money’ comes from you, the taxpayer; b) choice programs fund children, not schools; and c) parents know best where to send their children to receive a good education. New Application Requirements

Inline Image
There is now one uniform and simple application form for all families. There will be no distinction between a grant or scholarship award; only scholarship awards will be distributed.

The new application requires that all families submit financial information and additional documentation (copy of pages 1 & 2 of their most recent federal income tax return, copy of each child’s most recent report card). The main reason for this change is to provide APESF with the data necessary to compile reliable statistics for reporting that will show the percentage of low, middle and high income families receiving assistance. As always, personal financial information is kept strictly confidential. Recommendations will still be highly considered. Learn More »
