This weekend I had wanted to give a reflection on the Eucharist and Christ being the center of our life. I didn’t really want to talk about the US Grand Jury report because quite frankly, I don’t really know what to say, words seem so inadequate….Fr. Damian’s Letter
Parent Attention Needed:
Many emails were incorrect in Genesis. The school office uses the email addresses input by parents as our main source of email contacts. You are requested to go to the Genesis portal on the main page of our website, www.olgc.me, and update your email address.
Our first PTA Meeting: Teacher Introductions and Social Media Concerns of the 2018-2019 School Year to be held on September 12th at 7:00pm. You are invited to join members of the PTA, School Board, Faculty, Principal Chiarelli and the OLGC community at this opening meeting. You will get important information about the upcoming school year and all of this year’s PTA events. Babysitting available at the school during the meeting!!!
AS A REMINDER: In an ongoing effort to keep your children safe, please be advised, that your child is not permitted to wait by the school entrance doors before 8:05; there is no supervision before this time. Please note temperature drops with winter season and other weather concerns. Also, documentation of names of students will be taken, that are waiting outside prior to 8:05. Parents will be receiving the necessary contacts home as warnings.
Parent Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct
This year's official Parent-Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct will be found on the school's website www.olgc.me on September 4th. Diocesan requirement for the Code of Conduct are that each family return a signed form that they have reviewed and will follow the information in this document. The form is at the end of the handbook and will also be sent home with students for your convenience. Please contact the school office if you wish to have a printed copy of the handbook and code. The handbook has been updated with new additions.

The Health Office hours are 8:00-3:00. All required forms are now due. Please send in Forms P.S, and Y and immunization updates to the Health Office by the end of this week if you have not done so. You are reminded to fill out the forms completely before returning them to the Health Office. New State Health regulations require that students be excluded from school until all immunization forms are current.
Emergency Alert System for Parents
Good Counsel School uses the Honeywell Instant Alert System as our primary means of notification both for emergency school closings and also for general school announcements. Since the school intends to use the system for school announcements, it is recommended that parents revisit their alert setup and review which alert types (school closings, general) on which contact devices (home phone, work phone, mobile, cell text and/or email) they would like to receive information. Parents may want to consider using all possible devices for school closings but only the home phone and email for general school announcements. Please log on to activate or update your profile at https://instantalert.honeywell.com.
Back To School Night (Grade K-4) / September 19; 6pm
Parents attending this week's Back to School Night for grades 1-4 are asked to report directly to your child's homeroom at 6:00 p.m. The evening will begin with an opening prayer and welcome over the PA and the remainder of the evening will be spent in the classroom with the teacher explaining the curriculum, expectations, rules, procedures and communication methods. The class visits will conclude at 7:00 p.m. with a closing prayer.
Back To School Night (Grade 5-8) / September 19; 7pm
Parents attending this week's Back to School Night for grades 5-8 are asked to report directly to your child's homeroom at 7:00 p.m. The evening will begin with an opening prayer and welcome over the PA and the remainder of the evening will be spent following your child's schedule with ten minute periods. You will have the opportunity to meet all the teachers who will explain their curriculum, expectations, rules, procedures and communication methods. The visits will conclude at 8:00 p.m. with a closing prayer.
**As a reminder: Class masses will be scheduled monthly by homeroom teachers.

Welcome Back to School! I hope you had a wonderful summer relaxing and enjoying the sunshine with your family and friends. During the last few weeks, the PTA has already started planning for an exciting and fun year!! Please make sure to stay up to date on all the children and adult activities we have planned by reading the weekly updates!! There you will find flyers detailing special events and information regarding the various activities we have during the school year! If you would like to get involved...we would LOVE to have you!! Any amount of time given is extremely appreciated!

Be sure to fill out this form if you would like to be a Room Mom! First meeting is September 12th at 2pm!! Charger Cash is “cash” you can use thru the school year for some of our PTA events. You receive more money than you pay!! Take a look at this form if you want to take advantage of the great promotion! Also...remember to sign for our scrip program! Easy way to reduce your tuition while you buy gift certificates for family and friends!!
Also, PLEASE make every effort to attend our first PTA Meeting, Wednesday September 12th at 7pm in our school cafeteria. There will be lots of information reviewed, along with a presentation on Social Media Concerns!! Babysitting will be available during the meeting.
Get ready for some fun at our annual Back to School Social, Friday September 28th from 5:30-8pm!! There will be a DJ, crafts, food trucks, and more!! It is a wonderful night for our school families!!!
I would also like to give a warm welcome to the new students, parents, and staff...we are happy that you have become part of our wonderful school community.
