The Carolina Ballet Kicks Off Its 2009-2010 Season With "Swan Lake" Sept. 17-Oct. 4
The Carolina Ballet's 2009 season kicks off Sept. 17 with "Swan Lake" at the
Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts' Fletcher Opera Theater. This timeless ballet classic produced by Director Robert Weiss was specifically designed for the medium-sized company. The Carolina Ballet describes it this way: "We don’t have 36 swans, but Mr. Weiss has imagination in spades. The water scene alone is worth the price of admission." Great Children's Festivities are Planned for the 2009 North Carolina Literary Festival in Chapel Hill
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Library will host the 2009 North Carolina Literary Festival Sept. 10-13, with children's festivities planned for Sept. 12-13. Meet children's authors such as R.L. Stine, illustrators and storytellers as they share their work and interact with the audience.
After each Children's Main Stage presentation the speakers will be available to sign books.The Children's Activity Tent will encompass interactive stations revolving around reading, writing, illustrating and creating. You can also donate a book to the Book Fair, who will deliver them to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at UNC Hospitals. Learn more about the festival here.

Girls and their mothers, grandmothers, fathers and grandfathers are invited to learn about the custom of taking tea in the colonial and early American eras. You'll drink from china tea sets, eat delicious and beautiful cakes, and participate in crafts and games. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for children age 12 and under (minimum age is 5 years), payable in advance. Participants may mail a check to P.O. Visual Art Exchange's 11th Annual Raleigh Street Painting Festival is Sept. 17-20
The 11th annual Raleigh Street Painting Festival will be held on Fayetteville Street Sept. 17-20 as a part of SPARKcon. Visual Art Exchange produces the event, which last year welcomed more than 400 artists who chalked for 27 hours to transform the street into a work of art. More than 10,000 visitors came to watch the artists and participate in the various fun and creative components of the festival, including People's Choice voting, The Scrap Exchange, KidsCHALK, a weaving wall, free face painting and more. The Scrap Exchange Presents Swap-O-Rama Rama,
Round 2, at Marbles Kids Museum Sept. 5

The Scrap Exchange's seventh Swap-O Rama Rama--and the first one in Raleigh--will take place Sept. 5 at Marbles Kids Museum in the Zanzibar Room. Participants are invited to bring unwanted clothing and accessories, and the core of the swap consists of the gigantic piles of free clothing sorted into categories: pants, shirts, skirts, sweaters etc. These piles are the collective total of each participant’s contribution of one bag of unwanted clothes. Take home as much clothing as you can carry. Remainders go to Retails Thrift Store in Raleigh. (There is a suggested donation of $10 and kids are totally free.)
