This month we've got loads of Halloween fun, seasonal events and enthralling performing arts experiences to share with you. There are plenty of literary events for kids during October as well. The North Carolina State Fair Arrives in Town Oct. 15-25
This year's theme is "A Whole Lotta Happy." Chapel Hill's very own Anoop Desai, a finalist on season 8 of "American Idol," will fill the last open date of the N.C. State Fair concert schedule with a performance on Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Read about the rides and entertainment here.
Experience Hill Ridge Farms' Fall Pumpkin and Harvest Festival
Hill Ridge Farm in Youngsville is hosting its annual Fall Pumpkin and Harvest Festival this month. During the festival, general admission to the farm is $10.00 per person (ages 2 and up) and includes:

The N.C. Transportation Museum Will Host 'Disney's A Christmas Carol' Train Tour Oct. 9-10

North Carolina Museum of History Presents "An Apple a Day"
October is National Apple Month. Celebrate this fresh, healthy,
mountain treat with a lesson, a story and a taste test at the North Carolina Museum of History Oct. 1 from 10 to 11 a.m. The program targets ages 5 to 9 (with an adult present) and is being presented with Cameron Village Regional Library. Call (919) 807-7992 to register. Learn more here.
Oct. 11-17 is Wolf Awareness Week at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham
Come to the Museum of Life and Science during the week of Oct. 11-17 to learn all about Red Wolves, which happen to be an endangered species. Museum animal keepers will talk about the wolves daily at
2 p.m. and give away cool prizes. On Wed., Oct. 14, Kim Wheeler,
the director of the Red Wolf Coalition, will be at the museum between noon and 4 p.m. to talk about these endangered animals. Learn more here.
The North Carolina Museum of History Presents 'Time for Tots: Down in the Pumpkin Patch' Oct. 6 and 13
Bring your tots out to the North Carolina Museum of History to find out about the different varieties and uses
of pumpkins and gourds, then kids can decorate their own tiny pumpkin to take

The Museum of Life and Science Presents Spooktakular With a ChemMystery Show Oct. 28

The Durham Performing Arts Center Presents the 'Imagination Movers National Tour and Buy-One-Get-One-Free Kids Night
Imagination Movers, a popular kid-pop quartet, has launched their first-ever U.S. concert theater tour: "Live From the Idea Warehouse Tour." To celebrate the tour, DPAC will host an Imagination Movers Kids Night Thurs., Oct. 15 with a buy-one-get-one-free deal in the hour preceding the show, which begins at 6:30 p.m. There will be prize giveaways and fun kids activities in the lobby. The Carolina Ballet's 'Swan Lake' Continues Through Oct. 4
The Carolina Ballet's 2009 season kicked off Sept. 17 with "Swan Lake" at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts' Fletcher Opera Theater and continues through Oct. 4.

Enjoy Hobey Ford's Golden Rod Puppets in "Animalia" Oct. 1
This
show for all ages is winner of puppetry's highest honor, the UNIMA
Citation of Excellence, and recipient of three Jim Henson Foundation
grants. Hobey Ford is known for excellence in puppetry performance and
craft.The show begins Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. (the doors open at 5:30 p.m.) at

Raleigh Dance Theatre Presents Storybook Tales: 'Fancy Nancy' and 'Alice in Wonderland' Oct. 10
Raleigh Dance Theatre Storybook Tales is bringing back two favorite performances Oct. 10 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.: Mary LeGere’s "Fancy
Nancy: Bonjour, Butterfly," based on the popular children’s book by Jane
O’Connor with illustrations by Robin Preiss Glasser; and
Jennifer Sommers’ "Alice in Wonderland" based on the fairytale classic.
Storybook Tales performances will be held in Fletcher Opera Theater at Raleigh’s
Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. General admission
tickets for both performances are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

Infinity Ballet Theatre and Camp MusArt Presents 'Peter and the Wolf' Oct. 3-4 at Halle Cultural Arts Center in Apex
The performance will last approximately 30 minutes. Children are invited to

OCTOBER MOVIE RELEASES
In advance of the June 18, 2010 release of "Toy Story 3," Disney Digital Studios will release a double feature of "Toy Story 1" and "Toy Story 2" in 3D Oct. 2 at theaters nationwide. Learn more about that here.
On Oct. 16, Maurice Sendak's classic story "Where the Wild Things Are" comes to the big screen in an adventure tale for every generation. Learn more about that here. Also, be sure to drop by the "Wild Rumpus Teacher Celebration" being held in honor of the movie release at local Borders bookstores Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. There will be crafts, games and other fun activities for kids.
