Next Sunday’s Readings
“On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.” John gives us this beautiful, mysterious and hopeful message of God’s presence, in us and through Jesus. This reading is a short sample of a longer and very beautiful speech that Jesus gives to his disciples in the days before his crucifixion. This speech is often called “the farewell discourse.” Jesus took great care to prepare us for the resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Last Sunday’s Sermon: Happy To Be Left Behind
In the weeks leading up to May 21st there has been an impressive campaign on the part of Family Radio to promote the idea that Jesus the Christ would return on that date. People who believed this prognostication actually quit jobs and send large sums of money to the radio station to help pay for the public relations campaign. As we worshiped on Sunday, May 22nd, I proclaimed that I, for one, am happy to have been left behind. I am happy, even honored, to have been chosen to continue the work of bringing God’s love to the rest of creation. You can listen to this sermon or read other sermons at my sermon page:

We Are Blessed! So Much to Do!
Dear Friends,
What an exciting and active weekend we have just experienced at St. Dunstan’s Church. Last Saturday evening, we held our first ever Family Game Night. We had games and food of many descriptions, and a terrific turn out. Not only did the parishioners from St. Dunstan’s attend, but there were visitors as well and we all had a great time. People settled in to play different games, and at times the competition was serious. Everyone had a wonderful time and we are giving serious thought to making this a regular activity in the future.
On Saturday, there were several teams in working on the stained glass window. Some were also here on Friday and again on Sunday. All of the glass has been cut for the window and the task of putting the lead in, is well on its way. One team actually finished their entire panel on Sunday. We are so blessed to have Joe Hester as our artist in residence. He has a gift and talent, that all of us are benefiting from. We hope to have the stained glass window in place for Pentecost, which is June 12th.
Sunday, your vestry met and continued their work of leading our church. The meeting was very productive and you will be reading more about it in the Weekly Highlights, and on the Vestry Corner bulletin board in the Narthex.
Sunday also presented us with an afternoon that was filled with prayer, worship and incredible music as we enjoyed Choral Evensong at the Chapel. The choir sang beautifully and we had a good attendance at this lovely service.
It is so awesome to see this congregation involved in the many activities that we have. We are “coming alive” with new enthusiasm, new relationships, and new members. On top of that, those of us that have been here for a long time, feel the new energy that is within all of us. We are truly blessed and our future promises even more opportunities to get to know each other better, and to live into our mission statement and the life that God is calling us to. Thanks to all of you for your many contributions. The Holy Spirit is blowing through St. Dunstan’s Church. Praise God!!
Blessings,
Mary E. Pacher

PLEASE KEEP PLEDGE PAYMENTS UP TO DATE!
Thank you very much for supporting St. Dunstan's! We have so much to offer this tired, broken world, and your contributions to our ministries bless your fellow parishioners and our neighbors here in Shoreline. Pledge payments tend to go down over the summer and this can have a big impact on paying our bills and keeping our ministries going. Please keep your pledge payments current! Thank you!
Join our new Gardens and Grounds team!
Our Jr. Warden, Lyn Donivan, invites you to join the gardens team he is forming. A couple of times a month this team will meet to work on our various gardens and to do some of the other maintenance, like mowing our lawns. This is a great way to make a difference, have fun and make new or deepen old friendships. If you are interested in participating, please call the church office @206-363-4319.
FAMILY GAME NIGHT WAS A BLAST!
Over 30 people attended this event and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the games, refreshments, prizes and auction. Thanks to Dorenda Wilson for donating her extensive collection of games for this event. Participants were astonished at the depth and breadth of games available for play. Lyn Donivan made a wonderful red light / buzzer contraption that was put to good use for "Family Feud" rounds and for getting everyone's attention for announcements. As Junior Warden, Lyn went above and beyond the call of duty helping with setup and cleanup. Throughout the event, Cora Howard entertained us with her wonderful piano selections for "Name that Tune" and sing along songs. We'd also like to thank others whose contributions ensured the success of this event: Harley & Melinda Wahl, Liz Hinkofere, Tom Paulson, Mary E. Pacher, Chuck Pacher, Susan Vanek, Rica O'Connor and Margretta Perry. We're definitely going to have more game nights in the future, so stayed tuned for announcements!

Spirit Led, Spirit Filled
As we approach Pentecost, the fruits of God’s Spirit working among us are wonderfully evident. Each day for the past couple of weeks the Narthex has been busy with people working on our stained glass window. I love visiting with people as they make careful cuts or fit colorful pieces of glass together. We are celebrating our love for God as we create this prayer in glass and light.
Another fruit of the Spirit is our new Care Teams ministry. Care Teams and the Care Teams list allow us to pray for and support one another. What a gift it is to be able to give love and support, and to know when love and support are needed. If you know of or have a prayer need, call the office and get that need onto the Care Team list. If you would like to be on one of the Care Teams, talk to Dennis Beals, Karen Tynes, or me.
Pentecost falls on June 12th this year and we are again planning a celebration and experience of the presence of the Holy Spirit among us at St. Dunstan's. The first service, 8:00am at the Henry Chapel, will start our celebration. This service has grown wonderfully this year, both in attendance and in fellowship, with the new “coffee hour” after the service.
The second service, starting at 10:00am at St. Dunstan’s, will begin with an introit that draws from the ancient tradition of monastic chant. The service will be dramatic, beautiful and moving. Like our Palm Sunday Service and the Easter Vigil, we will incorporate movement, drama and music. Our stained glass window, “The Light of God”, will be installed in time for this service (God willing) and we will dedicate the window at this service. Then, gathered under the new window around our Baptismal font we will baptize a new member of our congregation.
This Sunday, Memorial Day Weekend, many of us will be enjoying the traditional beginning of the summer season with family gatherings and events. At St. Dunstan's Church we are planning a service that will include some of our most beloved music. “Joyful, joyful we adore thee!” Patricia Yeager will grace us with her harp before, during and after the service.
God is certainly working among us and through us. I thank God for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, giving us the will, courage and strength to do God’s work in and through our lives.
Your brother in Christ,
The Rev. David Marshall

Community Engagement
Part of our community engagement is being aware and reaching out to those around us in our neighborhood that are in need. A wonderful opportunity exists at our local Greenwood Food Bank. We are already known there for our generous contributions of food and money, and recently our volunteer activity on the second Friday of every month from 6-8 pm. A more personal involvement to be considered is the opportunity to actually distribute the food to the people. The times and dates available for this are posted on the Vestry bulletin board in the Narthex:
June 10, 2011 6-8 pm: Sorting of Food
June 14, 2011 12-1:30 pm: Personal food distribution
Hope to see you there!
